The Traffic Police Department of Phu Tho Province has just issued a decision to impose an administrative fine of 17 million VND and revoke the driver's license for 11 months for a car driver driving in the wrong direction on the Tuyen Quang - Phu Tho highway.
Driver Vuong Van Chien works with the police.
At about 8:20 a.m. on October 19, at Km 21 of Tuyen Quang - Phu Tho highway, Mr. Vuong Van Chien (born in 1968, residing in Yen Ky commune, Ha Hoa district, Phu Tho province) drove car with license plate 19A-174.12 in the opposite direction.
The male driver's behavior violated Point a, Clause 8, Article 5 of Decree 100/2019/ND-CP (amended and supplemented in Decree 123/2021/ND-CP).
At the police station, the man said that on the morning of October 19, he took the wrong entrance to the highway. Not wanting to go far, he saw that the road was deserted and thought the police would not notice, so he turned around and drove in the opposite direction.

Phu Tho Provincial Police warn that driving in the wrong direction, reversing, stopping to pick up or drop off passengers on the highway is very dangerous and poses a high risk of causing traffic accidents. Police ask people to raise awareness of strictly obeying traffic safety laws.
According to the new proposal of the Ministry of Public Security in the draft Decree on administrative penalties for violations of road traffic order and safety, car drivers can be fined 16 - 18 million VND and have 6 driving license points deducted if they drive in the wrong direction or reverse on the highway.
Compared to current regulations, the fine for reversing on the highway remains the same, but the driver's license will not be revoked, only 6 points will be deducted (out of a total of 12 points on the driver's license).
