Households raising VietGAHP colored-feather chickens in Phu Tho are excited after 3 months of raising them without having to worry about output. All the chickens have been sold, earning a profit of more than 200 million VND.

Implementing the VietGAHP colored-feather broiler chicken farming model project, linking cooperatives along the value chain in some northern provinces in 2024, farmers in Tien Kien commune (Lam Thao district, Phu Tho province) have so far sold healthy chickens, achieved food safety certification and earned much higher profits than traditional chicken farming.

Mr. Tran Van Quyet - Phu Tho Provincial Agricultural Extension Center said that last July, Phu Tho Provincial Agricultural Extension Center implemented a VietGAHP colored feather broiler farming model project in Tien Kien commune.

With 7 households participating in raising 7,000 colored chickens, the project has supported people with techniques for raising commercial chickens according to VietGAHP process; part of the cost of buying chicken breeds, feed, veterinary medicine and biological products...

Thanks to being cared for, raised, and disease-prevented according to the process, the chickens of households participating in the project have increased resistance, less disease, and develop evenly.

After 3 months of implementation, good results were achieved, the survival rate of the chicken flock until sale reached 97.5%, with an average weight of 2.35 kg/chicken.

Notably, all broiler products from the project model are certified to meet VietGAHP standards, consumed through joint contracts; sold at prices up to 2,000 VND/kg higher than market prices.

With the market price of chicken meat from 60,000-62,000 VND/kg, each chicken brings in a profit of about 32,000 VND. After deducting expenses, with a scale of 1,000 colored chickens, households participating in the model earn a profit of over 200 million VND.

Mr. Dang Ngoc Nga - Deputy Director of Phu Tho Provincial Agricultural Extension Center informed that the project "Building a model of raising VietGAHP colored-feather broiler chickens, linking cooperatives according to the value chain in some northern provinces" is a national project, chaired by the National Agricultural Extension Center, Hai Phong Agricultural Extension Center in coordination with the Agricultural Extension Centers of Thai Nguyen, Hai Duong, Bac Giang, and Phu Tho provinces.

Through the project, the Agricultural Extension Centers of provinces and cities have connected and promoted the signing of contracts between groups of households and businesses to purchase products to consume all products of the model. The connection has helped improve socio-economic efficiency, increase income and create stable jobs for farmers.

Phu Tho is one of the localities with many households participating in raising chickens under the project. Through evaluation, it is shown that the models all have high results in terms of economic, social and environmental efficiency, bringing income to farmers, contributing to the development of sustainable chicken farming and limiting environmental pollution.

"The success of the project helps people ensure food safety and environmental hygiene in livestock farming, which is the basis for forming concentrated livestock farming areas in the direction of goods. The model has the potential to develop and expand into mass production," Mr. Nga emphasized.
