A representative of the online media channel Qingliu said that immediately after being posted, the video recording the incident attracted a lot of attention.
In the video, a man places his right foot on the sink, his back to the camera, seemingly checking his toes and then putting his shoe back on.
The chain responded to questions from local media shortly after, saying that the man in the video suffered burns to his feet while working that day. He put his feet on the sink to get cold water to apply first aid.
The chain store's customer service department replied: "Currently, all store employees have been retrained and disciplined according to standards."
During the interview, the unit also provided surveillance camera footage from that day showing images of the burned feet of the staff involved and a diagnosis certificate from the Jinsong No. 2 Community Health Service Center in Chaoyang District, Beijing.
When the reporter asked for the specific address of this store, the customer service department replied that it could not be disclosed. However, the person who filmed the video said that the store where the incident occurred is near Panjiayuan in Beijing.
On June 12, the Market Supervision Bureau of Beijing Chaoyang District issued an official notice on the inspection of Panjiayuan store:
"Because the employee's act of putting his feet on the sink in the business area violated food safety operating regulations, law enforcement officials requested the store to immediately conduct a comprehensive cleaning and disinfection to eliminate potential food safety risks.
The store is currently closed and our office will continue to monitor cleaning, disinfection and remediation efforts as well as other related situations."
However, this incident has caused quite a bit of controversy in the online community. Some people think that there is really nothing that can be done in this extremely urgent situation. The subsequent cleaning and disinfection process can be carried out as usual and the store is forced to complete everything during the closing time.
Some people also said: “Getting burned is understandable. At this time, everyone will focus on the wound first. Just disinfect thoroughly and explain clearly.”
However, some netizens did not believe the official explanation of the chain store and expressed their anger: "This is not the foot of an old person! The company is still trying to protect its employees", "Even if your feet are burned, you cannot wash them here. They are people working in the food industry".
