Many Meta AI users are unwittingly making their sensitive chats, videos , audio, and images public, due to an optional “share” feature that they don’t seem to realize the implications of.

Since launching the Meta AI app in late April, Meta has been working to establish itself in the conversational AI space.

Different from competitors like ChatGPT or Google Gemini, Meta AI stands out with its “Discover” feature – a public feed that allows any user to publicly share their conversations with AI, including text, images and voice messages.

According to a recent Business Insider report, Discover feeds are being flooded with extremely private and sensitive information. Exposed content includes requests for help with child custody legal correspondence, confessions of grief, and financial concerns.

Even more alarming, some users have accidentally posted mis-recorded voice messages, revealing personal conversations they never intended to share.

Multiple users contacted by Business Insider confirmed that they were completely unaware that their interactions with the chatbot could be publicly visible.

What is Meta's real purpose behind this feature?

Despite being promoted as a space to “share and explore how others are using AI,” the feature has exposed serious privacy concerns. The fact that Meta created a feature that could potentially turn user privacy into public content raises many questions.

This approach appears to be primarily for advertising purposes, allowing Meta to demonstrate its AI’s ability to generate a variety of content types. However, it comes at the cost of exposing users’ personal information.

Instead of providing clear guidance and ensuring safety, Meta appears to prioritize the virality of an interface that, under the guise of innovation, is either intentionally or unintentionally exploiting user privacy in dangerous ways.
