50 years ago, under the leadership of the Politburo of the Party Central Committee, the Central Military Commission, and the General Command, our army and people successfully carried out the General Offensive and Uprising in the Spring of 1975, ending with the campaign named after beloved leader Ho Chi Minh, completely liberating the South, reunifying the country, successfully completing the people's national democratic revolution in the South, bringing the nation into a new era, the whole country independent, unified, and moving towards building socialism.

The great victory of the resistance war against the US to save the country has affirmed the revolutionary, scientific, modern and national identity of the unique military art of the Vietnamese people's war. This is shown in the following issues:

Firstly, promoting the strength of great national unity, combining with the strength of the times, creating a combined strength to win: Inheriting the experience of leadership and direction in the resistance war against French colonialism, entering the resistance war against the US, saving the country, our Party continued to promote the strength of great national unity, mobilizing the strength of the whole nation for the cause of fighting to unify the country, fighting for the truth "Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom". This is also a factor that affirms the righteousness of our people's struggle full of sacrifice and hardship. And it is also a factor to receive the help of international friends, creating a combined strength to fight and win.

That was the process of promoting the people's war posture to the highest level, creatively applying the art of military victory step by step, fighting and developing forces at the same time, winning against the war strategies of the US imperialists, creating the belief in the final victory, which was an important factor in mobilizing the strength of the nation and the strength of the times, bringing the resistance war against the US, saving the country to success through the General Offensive and Uprising in the Spring of 1975.

Second, to conduct people's war, taking the armed forces as the core, and to carry out comprehensive attacks on the enemy on all fronts: To gain victory against the US and allied forces with modern weapons and equipment, our Party has succeeded in organizing the entire people to fight the enemy, mobilizing to the highest extent the entire people to stand up and fight, taking the armed forces as the core, deploying strategic positions, stretching the enemy on all battlefields, creating interwoven positions, interlocking with the enemy, forcing them to deal with our people's war positions, making the enemy unable to promote the strength of their weapons and equipment.

On the southern battlefield, since the Dong Khoi movement in 1960, guerrilla warfare was widely developed in all three strategic regions, building fighting villages, forming a belt to destroy the US, creating a springboard, a position to surround the enemy, fighting the enemy from the base, from the starting point, limiting the enemy's ability to equip and weapon.

Along with the development of local armed forces, the main force was increasingly consolidated and developed, playing a leading role in conducting strategic and campaign operations, destroying the main military forces of the enemy. The combination of "2 legs, 3 prongs, 3 regions" operations created a strategic position of people's war, defeating each war strategy and combat measures of the enemy, winning decisive victories, and moving forward to achieve complete victory.

Third, combining armed uprising with revolutionary war, advancing to General Offensive and Uprising to win total victory: In the resistance war against the US, to save the country, political struggle played an absolutely dominant role and was our strength, the enemy's weakness. The political struggle movement was carried out widely in all three strategic regions from the beginning of the struggle to implement the Geneva Agreement until the day of total victory. The political struggle force went from fighting for people's livelihood and democracy with many forms and rich content. Political struggle developed into a revolutionary climax closely combined with military struggle, soldier-enemy agitation and became an integral part of the Vietnamese people's war. In which, armed uprising combined with mass offensive and uprising is the highest and most special form of development and has become the law of victory, the foundation of highly developed people's war, an effective and efficient strategic offensive method to promote military victory on the battlefields.

The military struggles of the main army corps and local armed forces on many scales have created a solid position, strong forces, and combined into a great combined strength to defeat the enemy. Military art focuses on researching and developing the art of organizing, commanding, and conducting campaigns and major battles, fulfilling strategic mission requirements, defeating the enemy step by step, transforming the balance of forces in our favor... Combining military and political struggles, the uprising of the masses in the revolutionary struggle has defeated the enemy's war strategy, and crushed the American will to invade.

The above factors helped the resistance war against the US to save the country overcome the difficulties of the period of preserving forces, advancing to defeat the war strategies of the US imperialists, with decisive victories such as: the General Offensive and Uprising of Mau Than 1968, defeating the will of the US imperialists to invade, forcing the US to sit at the negotiating table in Paris; the victory of the 1972 strategic offensive on the southern battlefield and smashing the strategic offensive by air, establishing the Hanoi - Dien Bien Phu Victory in the air; forcing the US to sign the Paris Agreement, ending the war, restoring peace in Vietnam, withdrawing troops, creating an important premise for our army and people to continue to step up attacks and counterattacks on the battlefields, gaining the strategic initiative. Building the main force, fully preparing all aspects for the army and people of the whole country to carry out the General Offensive and Uprising in the Spring of 1975.

In the spring of 1975, our army and people won the first breakthrough in the Central Highlands; followed by the Tri Thien-Hue and Da Nang attacks, creating a strategic division, changing the situation in favor of the revolution. Faced with these great victories, the Politburo of the Party Central Committee added strategic determination to liberate the South in 1975, implementing: "Lightning speed, boldness, surprise, sure victory" to achieve complete victory, promoting the development of Vietnamese military art to its peak.

Vietnamese military art in the resistance war against the US to save the country inherited the nation's tradition of fighting the enemy and defending the country, and the military knowledge of the era in gaining national independence, unity and territorial integrity of the Fatherland; it is a manifestation of creative and unique military strategic thinking, typical of Vietnamese military art in the Ho Chi Minh era.

Military art in the resistance war against the US, to save the country, developed step by step from low to high, moving forward to gain many great victories, contributing to the development of Vietnamese military art in the new era. In the future war to protect the Fatherland, those lessons and experiences still retain their value in both theory and practice. However, with the rapid development of the scientific and technological revolution, those experiences need to be further researched, developed and applied creatively, appropriately in the conditions of modern warfare, the country's capabilities and the new international context to solve the problems arising in terms of strategic guidelines, campaign art and tactics on the basis of development at a higher level than the previous war, making Vietnamese military art develop continuously, capable of fulfilling its mission in the cause of building and defending the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam.
