On March 6, AVP reported that Russian armed forces destroyed a Ukrainian HIMARS multiple launch rocket system in the Donetsk region of the Donbass front. The moment the HIMARS system was attacked was filmed by drones and made public.
“During the patrol, Russian forces discovered the HIMARS system, which was apparently awaiting delivery. As a result, the US-made multiple launch rocket system was destroyed by the Russian missile,” AVP quoted a source as saying.
The source also added that the attack took place in the Nikanorovka settlement on the territory of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic.
The HIMARS multiple launch rocket system was developed in the United States by BAE Systems and Lockheed Martin in the late 1990s and early 2000s. In 2003, the system went into production and is considered one of the most effective weapons.
HIMARS is equipped to launch all types of multiple rocket launchers. Each HIMARS system has a crew of 3, equipped with 6 M31 227mm rockets with a range of 70-80km.
A HIMARS missile costs about $150,000 and the chassis and wheeled launcher cost $5.6 million.
Previously, on March 5, SF also reported that a Ukrainian S-300PS air defense system was destroyed by the Russian army. Images recorded from the front line showed that the Ukrainian S-300PS air defense system and 5H63S navigation and illumination radar were destroyed by Russian fire in the area of Slavyansk city of the Donetsk People's Republic (self-proclaimed). They were destroyed by Iskander ballistic missiles and X-35U anti-ship missiles launched by the Russian Su-34.
Russia is currently conducting large-scale airstrikes against Ukrainian military positions on the front line. This is forcing the Ukrainian military command to move more and more air defense systems closer to the front line. This also puts Ukraine at high risk of losing valuable military equipment.
The Russian Defense Ministry has confirmed the destruction of S-300 launchers in the Mayaki area and Buk in the Vozdvizhenka region of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic.
