The rich and vibrant activities took place in a warm and sincere atmosphere, exchanging practical content, bringing the feeling of a dynamic, open, confident Vietnam, ready for an era of reaching out.
Rhythm of integration
General Secretary and President To Lam's working visit to the United States took place on the occasion of the first anniversary of the two countries upgrading their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership and towards the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-US diplomatic relations.
Vietnamese representative agencies in the United States organized a celebration, including the “Connecting Through the Arts” program. Musical works with cultural exchange meanings were performed, including an impressive piece written specifically for the program by composer and saxophonist Henry Threadgill called “Pho.”
When the song with a very Vietnamese name rang out, the Jazz melody was strong and liberal, the audience listened happily, feeling a very new rhythm of exchange. Perhaps that is also the rhythm of integration of Vietnam in the new period, independent, self-reliant, confident, open to dialogue, exchange to learn and reach out.
Tony Bui, a Vietnamese-American artist, shared his feelings: Art has a great power of connection. Each performance blends the classical and the modern, the East and the West, like a thread in the colorful tapestry that we are weaving together, a tapestry that represents connection, understanding and a common future.
At this event, General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that the Vietnam-US relationship is a rare journey. Over the past 30 years, the two sides have joined hands to create a historical highlight as a model in international relations, like a beautiful picture woven by the contributions and efforts of many people, both typical leaders and those who have not been fully known by name or face.
If we compare each action, no matter how small, to a thread, when woven together, it will weave a picture of the future, weave extraordinary things. The bilateral relationship is increasingly developing steadily and substantially, bringing more benefits to the people of the two countries as well as contributing to peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world.
During the meetings, the General Secretary and President always emphasized that the two sides need to increase contacts and delegation exchanges at high levels; make cooperation in high-tech science (semiconductors, AI), and training high-quality human resources a strategic breakthrough in bilateral relations; continue to prioritize cooperation in overcoming the consequences of war; strengthen dialogue in a spirit of frankness, constructiveness, sharing of interests and legitimate concerns of each other...
To realize that message, during the days when the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation was in New York, the General Secretary, President and official members had meetings with representatives of large economic groups and investment funds in the US; met and exchanged with many leading enterprises in this country and Vietnamese enterprises abroad.
Mr. Nick Ammann, Vice President of Apple Corporation, highly appreciated the investment prospects and said that Vietnam is not only a great market, but also a key production center for Apple to supply its goods to the world. Many of Apple's key products are now being manufactured in Vietnam and thanks to the support of the Vietnamese Government, the corporation is developing and expanding production.
According to Mr. Wally Liaw, founder and Senior Vice President of Business Development of Supermicro, Vietnam is a potential market, especially with Vietnam's policies to encourage the development of high-tech fields. He highly appreciates the development opportunities in Vietnam and commits to continue cooperating with Vietnam to support customers in particular and Vietnam in general to develop AI.
Mr. Jake Siewert, CEO of Warburg Pincus, one of the oldest and largest private equity funds in the world, said that Vietnam has become Warburg Pincus' third largest investment destination in Asia (after China and India). He expressed his desire to learn more and continue to invest more, hoping that the Vietnamese side will actively dialogue to remove obstacles...
New York - one of the most developed cities in the world, always in a fast pace, these days is even more bustling with the footsteps of delegations of United Nations member countries. The high-ranking delegation of Vietnam with many rich and diverse activities has also joined in that vibrant rhythm; thereby affirming Vietnam's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification.
Aspiration to reach far
Speaking at the plenary session of the Future Summit, General Secretary and President To Lam affirmed: Vietnam is committed to actively and effectively contributing to common efforts to build a world of peace and equal development, for a prosperous and happy life for humanity.
Reality shows that to fulfill that commitment, the country's economy must develop, first of all to take good care of people's lives, and then to have the capacity to contribute to the common development of humanity. The 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam has identified that developing human resources, especially high-quality human resources, is one of three strategic breakthroughs, along with institutional improvement and infrastructure development, to ensure the country's rapid and sustainable development goals in the coming period.
The socio-economic development strategy for the 2011-2030 period also clearly stated: Comprehensive development of human resources, science and technology, innovation associated with arousing the aspiration for national development, national pride, self-reliance and promoting cultural values and Vietnamese people.
To achieve that strategic goal, during his stay in New York, General Secretary and President To Lam and members of the delegation had a working session with Columbia University, the leading educational institution in the US, and met with Vietnamese experts, scholars, and intellectuals in the US to exchange experiences, arouse the desire for cooperation, promote investment motivation, and contribute to Vietnam.
The General Secretary and President shared with experts and scholars about the major orientations in Vietnam's socio-economic development in the coming period, which are to focus on building, perfecting and synchronously innovating the country's development institutions; strongly developing science and technology, innovation and digital transformation to create breakthroughs in productivity, quality, efficiency and competitiveness of the economy; continuing to fundamentally, comprehensively, effectively and substantially innovate education and training, focusing on developing high-quality human resources for priority and emerging industries and fields.
The sharing of the leader of the Vietnamese Party and State attracted the attention of experts and scholars, and at the same time inspired Vietnamese intellectuals and Vietnamese business owners abroad with ideas for investing in technology and resources for the country. Experts and scholars at Columbia University all assessed that Vietnam has the potential to maintain a high-growth economy based on growth drivers such as high-tech industries, innovation and improved investment environment.
Many opinions say that the Government needs to play a guiding and leading role, taking infrastructure as the foundation and the private sector as one of the driving forces for Vietnam to promote the development of the technology sector, especially artificial intelligence... Mr. Vu Van Le, a Vietnamese intellectual living in Houston (Texas, USA) expressed his emotion when he learned that our Party and State prioritize economic development and increase the attraction of resources for growth goals.
He said that in the US, there are talented Vietnamese people in every field of expertise, from engineers, doctors to experts in technology, science, and artificial intelligence. They all want to contribute and make practical contributions to the development of domestic fields, helping to bring the country into a new era of development.
During the meeting with representatives of the Vietnam Innovation Network in the United States, the excitement and enthusiasm of many young faces were evident. They said that the Network will continue to implement startup support activities to build a startup community, share to grow together, contribute to the development of the host country and promote the startup ecosystem in Vietnam. Thousands of businesses have participated in the activities of this Network.
Many members have come to Vietnam to start businesses or move their company headquarters back to their home country, not only bringing economic benefits but also contributing to technology transfer to domestic enterprises, solving many jobs for workers. Some experts are members of the Semiconductor Industry Development Experience Sharing Network, expressing their desire to introduce more businesses to invest in Vietnam.
The first working trip to the United States to attend multilateral foreign affairs activities and work by General Secretary and President To Lam in his new position was also the first time a General Secretary and President of our country directly attended high-level meetings at the United Nations General Assembly, which was of great interest to friendly countries, international organizations and businesses, who sought opportunities to exchange and share. Through this, Vietnam has enhanced its image, prestige and position in the international arena.
With the new position and strength of the country; with the viewpoint that promoting internal strength is fundamental, strategic, long-term, and decisive; external strength and the era are important, breakthrough factors, Vietnam is ready for a new historical starting point, a new era, an era of national growth.
