US and Russia identify steps to stabilize embassy operations

The US State Department said on February 28 that during talks with Russia in Istanbul (Turkey), the US delegation emphasized the need to ensure "stable and sustainable" staffing levels at the US Embassy in Russia, and that the two sides had identified steps to stabilize the operations of the embassies.

"The United States raised concerns about access to banking and contract services, as well as the need to ensure stable and sustainable staffing levels at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow. Through constructive discussions, the two sides identified specific initial steps to stabilize bilateral embassy operations in these areas," the statement said.

In addition, the two sides also agreed to conduct another round of negotiations to discuss diplomatic relations and banking access, with the time, location and composition of representatives to be decided later./.
