Responding to a reporter's question about whether he would ask Israel to stop, President Biden affirmed: "Absolutely, absolutely."

Meanwhile, at the European and Mediterranean Leaders Summit held in Cyprus on October 11, representatives of European countries all spoke out against Israel's attack on the UN mission.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni condemned Israel's firing on UN peacekeepers in Lebanon, where Rome has more than 1,000 troops, as unacceptable.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has called for “an end to all acts of violence” against UN peacekeepers in Lebanon.

“This is completely unacceptable and we demand an end to all acts of violence that, unfortunately, the Green Berets are suffering,” Pedro condemned.

French President Emmanuel Macron said that “stopping the export of weapons” used in Gaza and Lebanon was the only way to end the fighting there, and condemned “deliberate” attacks on UN peacekeepers.

In another related development, on the same day, October 11, Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide also condemned Israel for attacking the United Nations peacekeeping force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

“It is worrying that UNIFIL is in the crosshairs of Israeli forces,” the official said in a press release.

Foreign Minister Eide called on all parties to respect international humanitarian law and protect civilians. He also called for strict compliance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701 to maintain peace along the Israel-Lebanon border.

On the same day, Irish Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Micheal Martin also condemned an Israeli attack in southern Lebanon that injured two UN peacekeepers.

Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris had earlier said he was “deeply concerned” by reports of the incident, but Mr Martin went further, calling it “an extraordinary, quite shocking development”.

Ireland contributes 347 of the 10,000 troops in UNIFIL in southern Lebanon.

Earlier in the day, UN peacekeeping forces in southern Lebanon confirmed their headquarters in Naqoura had been attacked for the second time in 48 hours, just a day after two Indonesian blue berets were wounded by Israeli artillery fire.

The Lebanese Foreign Ministry accused Israel of bombing "the UNIFIL main observation post and base in Ras Naqoura, and the Sri Lankan battalion base, injuring several people".

The latest incident occurred near an observation tower and was considered a "serious development" by UNIFIL, which said in a statement that the safety of UN personnel and assets must be ensured.

Israel admitted its forces fired into the area, saying they were responding to threats and saying it "unintentionally" injured two Green Berets.

Lebanon has condemned the attacks and called for an immediate ceasefire. Hezbollah has also accused Israel of deliberately targeting UN peacekeepers and civilians.
