Iraq and Iran hail excellent 'brotherly' relations, agree to implement security deal

Iran and Iraq have agreed to implement a border security agreement signed in March last year, aimed at ensuring sustainable security along their shared border.

On November 11 in Tehran, Iranian officials welcomed and held a meeting with an Iraqi delegation led by National Security Adviser Qasim al-Araji to discuss the implementation of the joint security agreement in the context of regional conflicts.

At the meeting, Iraqi National Security Adviser Qasim Al-Araji reported on the progress of the agreement, affirming Baghdad's determination to maintain security and stability. He stressed that Iraq and Iran are two brotherly Islamic countries with "excellent" bilateral relations.

According to Iran's Tabnak news website, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi stressed the need to fully implement the deal, praising the "good" relations between the two countries in many areas.

Iraqi National Security Adviser Qasim Al-Araji reported on the progress of the agreement, affirming Baghdad's determination to maintain security and stability. He stressed that Iraq and Iran are two brotherly Muslim countries with "excellent" bilateral relations.

In addition to the security agreement, the two sides discussed new developments in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, calling on Muslim countries to cooperate closely to end Israel's offensive, and to send humanitarian aid to the affected Palestinian and Lebanese people.

The Iran-Iraq security agreement signed in Baghdad on March 19, 2023, aims to coordinate border protection and counter Kurdish factions operating in Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan region. The agreement includes measures to prevent armed groups from attacking Iran from Iraqi territory.
