Based on the number of listens and popularity, on the afternoon of January 9, a panel of music experts evaluated and voted for the Top 10 best artists and songs of the year - Best Of 2023 .

Singer Hoa Minzy surprised everyone when she became the rare artist to have 2 songs in the Top 10 best songs of the year with the two songs Turn on love and Thi Mau. With this achievement, the “single mother” surpassed a series of famous young singers such as Hieu Thu Hai, Tlinh, Phuong My Chi, Tang Duy Tan…

Top 10 best songs of 2023, in which the 2 songs ranked 10th and 11th had the same number of votes so they were included in the list by the council.

Sharing about the great successes of the year, Hoa Minzy said: “With 'Khong the cung nhau suot kiep', I succeeded in using keywords about King Bao Dai and Queen Nam Phuong that were searched a lot by the audience to review a part of history books. In 'Thi Mau', I still chose to inspire the younger generations about Vietnamese literature and the art of Cheo.

I hope that through the image, costumes, lyrics, and MV 'Thi Mau' will create interest for the audience to learn about the story of Thi Mau, Thi Kinh, and the art of Vietnamese Cheo, especially young audiences. I hope that young people will know more about Cheo, because Vietnamese music has very good Cheo but it is gradually fading away."

According to the voting council, in addition to popularity and number of listens on digital platforms, the evaluation criteria for outstanding artists and songs are based on musical artistic expertise such as: personal style, active activities during the year, contributions to the community or meaning, message, melody, harmony and creativity of each song.

2023 is a booming year for Vietnamese music with more than 20,000 songs released, up 34% compared to 2022. The market has about 5,521 active artists, double that of last year.

This is also the year that artists actively release albums and EPs, focusing more on the "listening" part for the audience. According to statistics from the largest online music platform in Vietnam, there are more than 28 million online music listeners every month, creating more than 500 million minutes of music listening every day.

The big change in Vietnamese people's music taste is when Rap & Hip-hop became the new trend while Pop-Ballad has been the most popular music genre for many years in Vietnamese music.

However, Pop-Ballad has always played an important role in the development of Vietnamese music when songs using folk materials, literature and healing music are widely used as inspiration for composition.

With Vietnam's vast treasure trove of folk materials, utilizing contemporary folk music in music is not only a blooming trend in 2023 but also an attractive topic for many years to come in Vietnamese music.
