PlayStation Portal handheld game console 'sold out' pre-orders

According to the Gaming Bolt , which Sony previously confirmed was a device specifically for remote gaming, the PlayStation Portal will allow owners to stream PlayStation 5 games over Wi-Fi and experience them anywhere in the house. With limited functionality, Sony's new handheld device seems to have little appeal to the mass market. But things don't seem to be going as expected.

Specifically, although the PlayStation Portal's completion until launch is still more than a month away, it seems that this device is attracting quite a lot of attention, especially in Japan.

As shared on Twitter by @Genki_JPN , pre-orders for the PlayStation Portal, which was available from September 29, have sold out across all online retailers in Japan, including Amazon, the Sony Store, and more. The handheld console costs 29,980 yen in Japan (equivalent to $199.99). It will be released worldwide on November 15.

Since its official confirmation, Portal has been met with considerable skepticism, and has also received criticism for its lack of cloud streaming, Bluetooth support, and other features (such as a media player), especially requiring users to have a PlayStation 5 console.

Even if a player owns a PlayStation 5, they won't be able to stream a game through their PS Plus Premium subscription, then stream that game back to Portal.
