From 2024, many subsidiaries of FPT Group will participate in eSports in Vietnam. The move shows FPT's large-scale investment in the new sector. Responding to Tri Thuc - Znews , Mr. Hoang Viet Anh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of FPT Telecom, FPT Group said that eSports is an important project, a long-term investment of the entire group. This activity targets young customers, preparing for the distant future of 5-10 years.
“On the 35th anniversary of the group’s founding, Chairman Truong Gia Binh raised the issue of directions for FPT to maintain stable development for the next 10-15 years. After a period of research, we discovered that in the entertainment sector, young users are interested in games and eSports,” said Mr. Viet Anh.

According to FPT Telecom leaders, this is a long-term investment, as most of the current eSports followers are not yet of working age and cannot afford to spend on products. However, in a few years, they will be the growth engine for the company.
In a short time, FPT has stirred up the Vietnamese e -sports industry by strategically sponsoring two gaming teams, GAM Esports and Team Flash. They also “raise” professional clubs under the FPT Polytechnic and FPT Retail schools. Recently, the group introduced the FangTV broadcasting platform, a live broadcasting app focusing on gaming content.
“This is just the beginning. Over the past two years, we have been getting acquainted with and gaining experience with the market. The next stage is further expansion,” the Chairman of FPT Telecom’s Board of Directors replied.
Vietnam is a country with a large number of Internet users and gamers, up to tens of millions. Famous eSports tournaments have viewership second only to football, reaching millions of people. However, this is not an easy market to conquer.
Live streaming apps similar to FPT's FangTV have existed in Vietnam for many years, but none of them have been able to maintain a large number of users. VNG 's TalkTV, Azubu, Facebook Gaming, or Chinese software such as NimoTV, Nono Live, Cube TV all disappeared after a period of operation.
Cerberus Esports, GAM Esports or The Expendable have achieved outstanding results in League of Legends or PUBG . However, these are still isolated cases. Many domestic gamers are still in a semi-professional working environment, without protection and long-term orientation. The cases of match-fixing and betting by people working in this field have been exposed, causing a loss of trust in the audience.
On the global stage, eSports remains a promising business. From a high-performance sports perspective, the sport is an opportunity for Asian countries, such as Vietnam, to compete, as it does not require too much physical strength.
South Korea has become an “eSports powerhouse” with the ability to win a series of championships. Teams like T1 and Gen.G have received large investments. Player Faker has been dubbed a “national treasure” and is famous worldwide.
