From Bau canal to Long Thuy fishing village
Few people know that Long Thuy was formerly called My A, and no one remembers exactly when the village was renamed to its current name. According to Mr. Nguyen Minh Han, Head of Long Thuy Village, the village's name comes from a stream of water flowing through it called Bau Canal. If you go from the north into the village, you will see this canal winding around the village and flowing out to the sea. The villagers respect this stream, likening it to the shape of a dragon. "Long is dragon, Thuy is water, Long Thuy is a dragon-shaped stream of water," Mr. Han explained.

According to Mr. Han, the stream originates from Bau Sung, Tuy An Nam commune (An My commune, old Tuy An district) and flows nearly 4 km, through Long Thuy and then into the ocean. This stream nourishes the land, creating the soil that makes Long Thuy different from other fishing villages.

Long Thuy has a long coastline, fine white sand, gently sloping without steep slopes and not divided by rocky outcrops like many other beaches. Long Thuy village has about 1,100 households living, mainly by seafaring. In the past, they used basket boats, bamboo boats, cast trawl nets, fished, and caught squid. Later, the three-cornered blind and seine nets developed more, helping to significantly increase the catch. However, the soul of Long Thuy lies not only in the slender boats plunging into the wind and waves, but also in the strong aroma of fish sauce - a traditional craft that has followed the village for many generations.

In April 2025, the traditional fish sauce making profession of Long Thuy was recognized by the People's Committee of Phu Yen province (old) as a traditional profession and a traditional craft village. This is a worthy recognition for the batches of fish sauce brewed from fresh anchovies, from white salt dried on the sea sand, through the diligent hands of the fishermen. Not only fish sauce, Long Thuy is also famous for shrimp paste, fermented fish sauce, fish sauce, dishes with a rich taste of the sea, preserving the traditional way of making that is not easily lost.
The villagers compared the Bau stream at the north end of the village to a winding dragon shape, so they changed the village name to Long Thuy.

As an old fishing village, Long Thuy has never lost its inherent peace. Thanks to the coconut groves running along the coast and Bau canal, the climate here is always cool, even on hot summer days with temperatures reaching 38 - 39 degrees Celsius. The beauty of Long Thuy is not noisy, not bustling but quiet and gentle, just like the way the people here are attached to the sea.
