Sa Dec Flower Village farmers prepare flowers for Lunar New Year |
With over 100 years of establishment and development, Sa Dec flower village is considered the "capital of ornamental flowers" of the Southwest region. Every year near the end of the year, the working atmosphere in the gardens becomes more bustling than ever. This year, the preparation work is even more urgent because it serves the Lunar New Year and aims for the 2nd Sa Dec Flower - Ornamental Festival, scheduled to take place in the spring of 2026.
Many flower growers in Sa Dec Flower Village have received orders for Tet flowers. |
In Sa Dec ward ( Dong Thap province), Mr. Le Hoang Minh's family has planted about 20,000 pots of roses of all kinds. According to Mr. Minh, this year's market still focuses on the main flower varieties that are easy to consume, but besides that, new varieties such as super rose buds are also expected to create attraction.
Traditional flowers such as chrysanthemums, marigolds, cockscombs... are widely grown and cared for by farmers. |
Also in Sa Dec flower village, Tran Thi Huong’s family (Sa Dec ward) said they have received orders for both the Festival and Tet. Her family mainly focuses on chrysanthemums, marigolds, and cockscombs - traditional flowers that are popular with consumers. “Since the beginning of August, we have been busy composting and sowing seeds to keep up with the schedule. Everyone in the flower village is racing against time,” Huong shared.

However, not all gardeners are doing well. Nguyen Van Hung, a farmer who grows more than 3,000 flower baskets, said that the price of straw fertilizer is increasing due to the scarcity of rotten straw. “Increased input costs will directly affect the cost of products. This is something that farmers are very worried about when the Tet flower crop is the biggest source of income of the year,” Hung said.
At the cooperative scale, Mr. Dang Van Giau, Head of the Tan An Ornamental Flower Cooperative, informed that this year the cooperative has planted about 300,000 pots of ornamental flowers. The highlight is expected to be the seven-color raspberry chrysanthemum, especially the two colors pink and red, which are favored by customers in and outside the province.

According to the Economic - Infrastructure and Urban Department of Sa Dec Ward, the total area of ornamental flower production in the ward is currently nearly 1,000 hectares, serving the year-round market demand as well as export. This year's Tet season alone, the planting area is estimated at about 100 hectares, equivalent to last year. To date, people have planted more than 30 hectares of traditional chrysanthemums and yellow raspberry chrysanthemums - the main flower varieties of the craft village.
Vice Chairman of Sa Dec Ward People's Committee Huynh Anh Dien said: "The government has assigned specialized departments to coordinate with local people to ensure both flower planting and consumption. The goal is to bring the highest economic efficiency to growers and contribute to the success of the 2nd Sa Dec Flower - Ornamental Festival as well as the 2026 Lunar New Year."

Not only is it an important crop, this year’s flower season also carries many expectations: promoting the Sa Dec Flower Village brand, expanding the consumer market and contributing to boosting local tourism . With careful preparation from the government and farmers, Sa Dec is gradually getting ready to show off its colors during the upcoming traditional Tet holiday and flower festival.
