NDO - On November 16, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) organized a scientific workshop with the theme: "Evaluation and implementation of the Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Startup Project in Vietnam following the model of the Federal Republic of Germany".
The workshop attracted the participation of more than 80 delegates who are lecturers, scientists, managers, and businessmen from state management agencies, universities, colleges, research organizations, production and business establishments, students, and trainees in Hanoi.
Delegates gave many comments, recommendations and solutions on training and supporting Vietnamese students to start and sustainably start a business.
In his opening speech, the Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), Professor, Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan, said: In recent times, the school has implemented a policy of harmonizing the training of in-depth knowledge and a solid foundation with equipping students with a spirit of flexibility, initiative, and quick adaptation to social reality. In addition to researching policies, the school has especially monitored the graduation trends and employment opportunities of students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) as well as other universities.
Accordingly, students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities not only work in the fields they have been trained in, but also work in many other fields. Many students have a strong entrepreneurial spirit based on the knowledge foundation equipped at the school. Thereby, to spread the spirit of innovation, entrepreneurship and prepare students to be ready to integrate and start a business.
According to Director of the Institute of Economics and Enterprise Development, General Secretary of the Hanoi Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, Dr. Mac Quoc Anh, in the context of globalization and the 4.0 industrial revolution, the startup movement has become an inevitable trend in Vietnam, especially for young people and students.
In Hanoi, as the country’s largest education hub, universities have played a key role in driving this movement. The number of student start-up projects in Hanoi increased fivefold from 2010 to 2023. From just 100 projects in 2010, the number reached 500 projects in 2023. Student start-up projects have attracted a total investment capital of more than VND300 billion from investment funds, businesses and non-governmental organizations.
Although there are many support funds, access to capital is still difficult, especially for new startup projects. According to statistics from the National Startup Center, 80% of student startup projects have difficulty raising investment capital. About 30% of projects receive financial support from investment funds or financial institutions. In addition, students often lack management and business skills, leading to the inability to maintain project operations when facing difficulties. Practical training courses and programs need to be strengthened to improve this problem.
According to statistics from the National Center for Supporting Innovative Startups, there are currently about 3,800 startups operating nationwide. Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for Culture and Education Trieu The Hung recommended: It is necessary to continue researching and perfecting the legal framework on startup policies, supporting career and business start-ups for young people; perfecting policies and support from the State and authorities at all levels in the startup process. The development and implementation of policies to encourage and promote innovation need to clearly divide the fields as well as coordination mechanisms between ministries, branches and localities; policies need to be consulted by many parties before being issued.
Director of the Center for Knowledge Transfer and Startup Support, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Associate Professor, Dr. Truong Ngoc Kiem affirmed: In the national innovation system and startup ecosystem, universities are a very important element. Strong universities are a source of knowledge and technology production for society, providing abundant creative ideas for startup projects, contributing to the increase in assets and intellectual capacity of businesses.
Teaching, training and fostering to raise awareness and enhance capacity for learners have been of interest to universities and colleges to implement diverse content and forms to foster knowledge and skills, provide resources to support students to turn ideas into feasible business projects, bringing benefits to the community.
Therefore, in the coming time, the Ministry of Education and Training, Hanoi National University and other higher education institutions need to perfect the system of policy mechanisms to strengthen trust, enhance the organic and strong connection between universities and enterprises as well as strengthen the compilation of curriculum frameworks, documents, textbooks, and learning materials on innovative startups so that equipping students with knowledge and skills is of high quality, effective, and substantial.
Founder of Dao Minh Quang Fund, Dr. Dao Minh Quang said: To ensure that businesses are established and can survive and develop sustainably, entrepreneurs and start-ups must have professional knowledge, a receptive attitude and a desire to learn...
At the workshop, the organizing committee announced and introduced the Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Start-up Project at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities sponsored by the Dao Minh Quang Foundation, Federal Republic of Germany, including some main contents such as: professional activities, implementation progress and products of each activity for practical use in training and practice of entrepreneurship for students and trainees in universities and colleges.
