Spread the "Green Sunday" movement

From July 1, 2025, Da Mai ward was officially established on the basis of merging the wards: Tan My, Da Mai, Song Mai, My Do (formerly Bac Giang city) and Que Nham commune (formerly Tan Yen district). Da Mai ward has a large area, a large population, and both urban and rural characteristics. Despite the process of transfer and merger, the government and people of Da Mai still persistently maintain the "Green Sunday" movement - one of the pilot models that has brought many positive changes in environmental protection work.

On the last Sunday morning of July, we were present at Mai Sau residential group, the atmosphere of the campaign was bustling. From 6 am, the youth union members, women's union members and the elderly were present in large numbers, divided into working groups. The alleys were cleared and cleaned. The working atmosphere was bustling and spontaneous, demonstrating the sense of responsibility of the community. Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa in Mai Sau residential group shared: "We have been familiar with "Green Sunday" for many years. Now that we have merged into the new unit, we still maintain that spirit. When everyone works together, the roads are clean, the streets are beautiful and awareness also improves every day".

In other residential groups in the area, "Green Sunday" is still maintained regularly every weekend morning. Hundreds of people participate in cleaning, removing advertisements, planting flowers along the roadside, and clearing sewers. As the core force of the movement, women in Da Mai ward not only participate in cleaning and beautifying the landscape but also deploy many meaningful models. Ms. Than Thi Thu Thuy, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of the ward, said: "Previously, the women's unions of the old wards and communes built many good models such as collecting plastic waste to raise funds, garbage-free roads, and self-managed women's groups. We are continuing to inherit and expand these models throughout the new ward."

In reality, many streets after the merger in the ward have had clear changes. People are more aware of dumping garbage on time, sorting garbage at home, and maintaining public hygiene. According to the leader of the ward People's Committee, the locality will continue to assign specific targets to each residential group, build model streets on environmental sanitation, and increase socialization to replicate the models of "flower streets" and "self-managed groups without plastic waste". At the same time, the movement will be integrated with emulation campaigns, and the implementation results will be included in the criteria for evaluating cultural families and residential areas. The "Green Sunday" movement is not simply a street cleaning activity but has become a part of the civilized lifestyle of the people.
