Start a meaningful journey
The image of a group of children in neat clothes, confidently standing in front of tourists who are amazed by the majestic beauty of Ban Gioc waterfall, enthusiastically telling about the story of the waterfall, about the people and culture here. No longer shy and timid students, they have become enthusiastic young " tourism ambassadors". This is one of the extracurricular practice sessions of the "Junior Tour Guide" class organized by the SPEAK UP Communication Skills Center, attracting the participation of many children in the province.
The class is taught by Ms. Ly Thi Thu Thuy, an international tour guide and an officer of the Cao Bang Non Nuoc Geopark Management Board. With her work experience and deep love for her homeland, Ms. Thuy has the idea of opening a special class on weekends, taking advantage of her time to dedicate to the children.
Ms. Thuy shared: With my work, I see that many young people, although growing up in Cao Bang, do not really understand and love their homeland. I want to create a playground for them to experience and learn naturally, and from there, their love for their homeland will gradually grow.
Learn while playing, play while learning
The class is not just dry theoretical lectures. The content is designed to creatively blend knowledge and practice, helping students easily absorb and remember.
In class, students learn about the culture of the Tay, Nung, Dao ethnic groups, typical dishes of Cao Bang such as black jelly, sausage, sour pho, and especially tourism at famous destinations. Furthermore, students are also trained in communication skills, how to stand in front of a crowd, how to present fluently and impressively, and how to handle unexpected situations that may arise in the work of a tour guide.
The practical sessions are the most interesting part. The children get to visit and feel the beauty of their homeland. From the ancient Pho Cu Pagoda, the unique Khuoi Ky stone village, to the majestic Ban Gioc waterfall and the Pac Bo National Special Relic Site... Each trip is a vivid practical lesson. The children experience Kim Dong Walking Street, which introduces modern life and street food culture, or learn about traditional craft villages such as incense villages and blacksmith villages, and make their own unique products and introduce them to visitors.
Tran Bao Ngoc, a student at Hop Giang Primary School, shared: What I like most is going on field trips. Before, I only knew about Cao Bang because of Ban Gioc Waterfall, but after studying, I also learned about the stone village, the incense village and many other places. I think Cao Bang is beautiful and has many things to be proud of.
Not only that, the students also know how to spread local cultural values. Their innocent and sincere sharing shows the clear effectiveness of the classroom model. They not only learn skills but also cultivate national pride and love for their homeland in a natural and profound way.
Connect love, spread pride
Looking at her young students, Ms. Ly Thi Thu Thuy could not help but feel proud: They not only have knowledge but are also confident, active and more aware of protecting the environment and preserving culture. I believe that these young buds will grow up to become enthusiastic children of Cao Bang, ready to introduce the beauty of their homeland to friends at home and abroad.
The “Little Tour Guide” class is not just a regular skills course. It is an effective way of education, where children can learn, play and be loved. This is also a way to promote the image of Cao Bang tourism from the local people.
