Taking advantage of the 5-day holiday, many families chose mountains and beaches to 'cool off', while in Ho Chi Minh City, with temperatures reaching 40-50 degrees Celsius, people and shops also have many unique ways to 'cool off'. These are the images Thanh Nien recorded in the past few days.
Just after 10 o'clock, the temperature at Hang Xanh overpass area was already 40 degrees Celsius.
Hang Xanh intersection (Binh Thanh) is always crowded and congested, but in recent days it has been "strangely clear". The reason is not only because many people go out for the holidays, but also because most of the people staying here limit going out to avoid the scorching heat.
In the city center, it is not difficult to see many tourists holding fans in one hand, water in the other, and their heads covered with scarves and hats to cope with the intense heat.
Despite the harsh sunlight, people in a small neighborhood in Ho Chi Minh City still cover themselves up all day without feeling stuffy.
The road is full of trees but even though it's late afternoon, there are still few people and vehicles. If you're not traveling at this time, then staying in an air-conditioned room to 'watch movies' is the best. That's the result of a pocket survey we conducted with many people in the past few days.
To cope with the record heat, many shops in Ho Chi Minh City have also applied different cooling solutions. Misting, artificial rain, watering the sidewalks... are common images that we have recorded.
Although there are many trees, the owner of this shop still sprays mist to cool down but it seems to be ineffective. The bright sun and the sky without a single dark cloud make the forecast of rain or rain seem far away.
While the "rain caller" admitted that its effectiveness has not been verified, this restaurant has made its own artificial rain... to cool down for itself and its customers first.
Spraying water to cool the sidewalk is also a method chosen by many homeowners. People still go to the shade to avoid the sun, but the sidewalk is exposed all day, how can they stand it?
Around 13 - 14 o'clock is the hottest time of the day, the system in the car reports the temperature up to 51 degrees Celsius. April 29 was recorded as the "hottest peak" in Ho Chi Minh City, at times the car recorded the outdoor temperature up to 47 degrees Celsius.
After 3 pm, the Hang Xanh overpass area (Binh Thanh) was still hot and sunny, reaching 40 degrees Celsius. This was also the temperature recorded at 10 am the same day. That explains why at the peak, the actual temperature was tens of degrees higher. It was terrible.
