The Admissions Council of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology has just officially announced the threshold to ensure input quality (floor score) for regular universities in 2023 for the 5-method admission combining multiple criteria.

Accordingly, the minimum score for the school to accept applications for each academic component is as follows:

• Ho Chi Minh City National University's capacity assessment test score: 630/1,200 points
• High school graduation exam score: 18/30 points (total score of 3 subjects calculated according to admission combination)
• High school academic results (according to transcript): 18/30 points (average of total score of 3 subjects according to admission combination of 3 school years 10, 11, 12)

Candidates who have taken the 2023 high school graduation exam and achieved the above score threshold will be entitled to apply for admission to the corresponding majors of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology according to this method.

The school also noted that the threshold scores for receiving applications (floor scores) include priority scores for subjects and regions according to the Admissions Regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training. Candidates must achieve a score higher than or equal to the threshold scores for receiving applications for all 3 components in method 5 to be eligible to apply for admission under this method.

Candidates applying for admission under method 5 need to register their wishes on the Ministry of Education and Training's information portal and add information on the school's website mybk.hcmut.edu.vn by 5:00 p.m. on July 30.

When asked whether candidates who did not take the competency assessment exam this year are eligible for admission, Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Hoai Thang, Head of Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, said that the school's Admissions Council will consider using high school graduation scores as a replacement (with a certain percentage).

Mr. Thang added: "Candidates should submit any score they have, including the previous year's exam scores. The Admissions Council will base on the specific situation of the application to decide whether to convert the candidate's score to the missing score or not and decide how to convert (including the previous year's score when comparing with the new score range)."

"Everything will be done on the principle of not losing candidates' application opportunities but still ensuring the rights and fairness for candidates who take all exams this year," said the Head of the Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology.

In 2023, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology will recruit 5,150 students according to 5 methods. For method 5, which combines multiple criteria, the school will reserve 75-90% of the total enrollment quota.

Method 5 will evaluate candidates based on 3 components: academic performance accounts for 90%, personal achievements account for 5%, and social activities, literature, sports, and arts account for 5%. In the academic component, the ability assessment test score has a weight of 50-75%; the high school graduation exam score has a weight of 20-30%, and the high school academic performance score accounts for a maximum of 5%.

The school's admissions board will decide how to convert scores between high school grades, high school exam scores, and competency assessment test scores and weights based on specific exam score ranges.
