The temporary settlement area of Mong ethnic families devastated by natural disasters is located under the canopy of the Sang Le forest in Na Hy village, near National Highway 16 - a vital traffic route in the west of Nghe An province. It is known that this forest land is managed and cared for by Ms. Vy Thi Luyen's family, who agreed to let the local government borrow it to build tents for the people. "The village was hit by a natural disaster, all the houses were washed away, it was so pitiful! When the local government raised the issue of lending land to build temporary houses for households whose houses were swept away by the flood, my family immediately agreed. The tents under the canopy of the forest also help people avoid the heat", Ms. Vy Thi Luyen shared.
Forces set up tents for 13 households in Pha Mut village (Nhon Mai commune, Nghe An province) whose houses were swept away by floodwaters. |
In the hot weather, the forces and the people cleared the grass, leveled the land, and then each tent was quickly set up, and by late afternoon the work was completed. Along with that, the local government provided water containers for the people, ensuring hygiene. The Nhon Mai Commune Health Station sent staff to spray disinfectant against mosquitoes and insects at the land where the people would temporarily stay. Philanthropists also came to support solar lights and necessities to help households overcome difficulties.
After the local government and forces built tents, 13 families in Pha Mut village have moved back to stabilize their lives in the immediate future. After the flash flood swept away their house, in recent days, 7 people in Mr. Xong Xai Tho's family had to temporarily stay at a neighbor's house. However, that house was also severely damaged and cramped, making daily life very inconvenient. When he was moved to live in the tent, Mr. Tho could not help but be emotional, sharing: "Our house and property were all swept away by the flood, it was very difficult! In the past, our neighbors let us stay, but we couldn't stay like that forever. Thanks to the government building temporary houses, we feel comfortable living here."

Talking to us, comrade Mac Van Nguyen, Secretary of the Nhon Mai Commune Party Committee, said: "The local government always sends forces to support people in times of difficulty and disaster. In the coming days, we will build more temporary houses for households who have lost their homes to temporarily stabilize their lives. In the long term, it is necessary to quickly survey and advise the People's Committee of Nghe An province to soon have a plan to build resettlement areas for people who have lost their homes due to natural disasters...".
