According to Deadline, on March 14, billionaire Jeff Bezos and his fiancée Lauren Sanchez presented the annual Bezos Courage and Civility Award . The award honors individuals who have initiatives to solve complex social problems, build solidarity, and demonstrate civility through volunteer programs and community activities.
Eva Longoria, 49, received the award for creating the Eva Longoria Foundation (founded in 2012) with the aim of "helping the Latino community build a better future for themselves and their families through education and entrepreneurship." The program provides financial support for low-income people, paying for tuition and business capital. In her acceptance speech, the actress said she was honored and excited to receive the opportunity to invest and expand infrastructure for her community.

The University of Texas system website notes that McRaven "leads the Preservation of the Force & Family initiative, which aims to ensure the mental and physical health of service members and their families. His wife, Georgeann Brady McRaven, has devoted much of her career to leadership for military and wounded warrior families."

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez began presenting the award in 2021 (with a hiatus in 2023). The inaugural award went to attorney Van Jones and chef Jose Andres, who each received $50 million. Both are humanitarians with notable community projects. In 2022, country singer and philanthropist Dolly Parton was the next honoree.
After stepping down as CEO of Amazon in 2021, Bezos has focused on conservation and his space exploration company Blue Origin. His net worth is now more than $192 billion, according to Forbes .
Lauren Sánchez, 54, is an American actress, TV host and film producer. She went public with her relationship with Jeff Bezos in January 2019, shortly after Bezos announced his divorce from MacKenzie Scott after 25 years of marriage. At the same time, Sánchez divorced her husband of 13 years, Patrick Whitesell.
