On July 20, Vietnam Airports Corporation announced that it had just agreed with the People's Committee of Quang Binh province to cancel the groundbreaking ceremony for the Dong Hoi airport expansion project. The groundbreaking ceremony was originally scheduled for July 22.

Vietnam Airports Corporation will take the initiative in implementing the project to ensure the plan and progress set out.

In particular, this unit agreed to transfer all expected costs of organizing the project's groundbreaking ceremony to the Quang Binh province's scholarship fund to support students.

Dong Hoi Airport meets ICAO level 4C standards with a runway size of 2,400m x 45m.

The runway, taxiway, and apron are capable of accommodating A320, A321, and similar aircraft. The 2-storey passenger terminal is fully equipped with aviation and non-aviation facilities with a designed capacity of approximately 500,000 passengers per year.

On September 14, 2023, the People's Committee of Quang Binh province issued a decision approving the investment policy and approving the investor for Vietnam Airports Corporation to implement the project "Construction of passenger terminal T2 and expansion of aircraft parking lot - Dong Hoi Airport".

The project includes 2 component projects deployed on an area of ​​over 15 hectares, with an investment capital of 1,844 billion VND.
