South Korea's Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) said it will invest about 290 billion won ($218 million) to develop an improved version of its domestic surface-to-surface missile capable of attacking underground targets.

On September 18, South Korea's Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) announced that the country will invest about 290 billion won (218 million USD) to develop an improved version of its domestic surface-to-surface missile capable of attacking underground targets.

The improved bunker-buster missile will be operated on a mobile launcher and will enhance the military's precision strike capabilities against targets hidden inside tunnels and bunkers, DAPA said, according to Yonhap.

The missile has increased range and penetration capabilities compared to the current system, which has a range of 180km. DAPA did not provide details on the specifications of the new weapon, but it is expected to have a range of more than 300km.

The Korea Agency for Defense Development will oversee the project, which is expected to last until 2027, with major defense companies involved in producing prototypes.
