In order to comprehensively evaluate the productivity, quality and efficiency of the SYN8 three-line hybrid rice production model, recently in Dien Chau, Syngenta Company organized a workshop "Evaluation and summary of the demonstration model and the Launching Ceremony of the SYN8 three-line hybrid rice seed".

The workshop was attended by comrades: Nguyen Nhu Cuong - Director of the Department of Crop Production, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development; Vo Thi Nhung - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development; representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and many farmers in key rice growing districts of Dien Chau, Quynh Luu, Nam Dan, Thanh Chuong, Anh Son, Con Cuong, Tan Ky, Yen Thanh, Nghi Loc...

Outstanding advantages

In the Spring crop of 2024, with the permission of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nghe An province, Syngenta Company has coordinated with the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection of the province, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the districts to implement a demonstration model of the 3-line hybrid rice variety SYN8. Currently, the model is preparing to enter the harvest stage.

The rice variety was put into production under conditions of low temperatures at the beginning of the season, high blast pressure, hot weather at the end of the season, lodging at the beginning of the season and especially pressure from crop change. Under these conditions, SYN8 still developed very well with outstanding advantages: healthy seedlings, good cold resistance to help ensure the season, strong tillering, healthy growth and development, concentrated emergence and exit, good resistance to blast and bacterial leaf streaks, high percentage of solid grains from 84.6-94.5%, 2-9% higher than the control; good lodging resistance, average growth time.

Thanks to these characteristics, SYN8 has high and stable productivity, reaching 7-8 tons/ha on a large scale, and can reach 9-10 tons/ha under highly intensive farming conditions; good rice quality, delicious and flavorful rice, high head rice recovery rate, high commercial value. According to statistics, the yield difference between SYN8 and the control variety is from 3-8% in the spring crop and 1-14% in the summer crop.

In its product research and development plan, Syngenta always wants to introduce new crop varieties with productivity, quality and outstanding characteristics compared to the varieties currently circulating on the market, including hybrid corn and rice varieties.

The three-line hybrid rice variety SYN8, researched and created by Syngenta Group, is a rice variety recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development under Decision No. 442/QD-TT-CLT dated November 28, 2023. This is a three-line hybrid rice variety with many outstanding traits.

Cold resistant, high and stable productivity

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Nhu Cuong - Director of the Department of Crop Production, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development stated: Agricultural production in Nghe An in particular, and the North Central region in general, is subject to many adverse impacts of the weather. Syngenta Company has been very responsive, researching and selecting rice varieties that, in addition to good quality and productivity, are also particularly suitable for the weather conditions and natural disasters in the area.

"In the coming time, the unit needs to continue to pay attention to the selection of parent lines to maintain and develop the SYN8 product better and better, so that it can accompany farmers for a long time in the production organization process. At the same time, continue to invest, create better and more effective products, capable of adapting to climate change; accompany localities in transferring scientific and technological advances quickly and sustainably", Mr. Nguyen Nhu Cuong emphasized.

Over the years, Syngenta has been very methodical in researching, selecting, and building demonstration models of truly high-quality rice varieties to put into production, increase value and income, and create trust for farmers in the area. Not only that, the Company has always accompanied Nghe An in the field of social security, especially programs to support housing construction for the poor and people in difficult circumstances launched by the province.

Ms. Vo Thi Nhung - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development shared: Nghe An province has special difficulties in weather conditions, severe cold, sun and rain, drought, storms and floods, frequent natural disasters and epidemics, and the pressure on the crop schedule is very heavy compared to many other provinces.

Therefore, in directing production, we must be extremely careful in selecting plant and animal varieties, building a seasonal framework, by all means avoiding difficulties, organizing production to achieve the highest productivity, quality and value. Currently, there are 80 rice varieties that can be produced in the spring crop, but in reality, Nghe An only has 7 hybrid rice varieties and 5 pure rice varieties as the main structure.

Through 2 production seasons, it has been initially shown that SYN8 is a suitable rice variety with a wide range of adaptation, adaptable to the soil and climate conditions of Nghe An, meeting the requirements of crop structure in the spring crop. The successful production model of SYN8 rice variety will bring another choice to farmers in the area.
