Sharing with the press on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the success of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and Vietnam's National Day (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025), Professor, Dr. Michael Brie, a German philosopher and social scientist, with many studies focusing on the theory and history of socialism, communism, social transformation and revolutionary political practice , said that the success of the August Revolution is a "beacon" of hope for anti-imperialists around the world.

Historical turning point and message of the times

Professor, Dr. Brie affirmed that the August Revolution of 1945 was a turning point not only for Vietnam but also for colonial countries around the world; marking the moment when the Vietnamese people, under the leadership of President Ho Chi Minh, gained independence and ended nearly a century of colonial rule. According to him, for the first time, the name of Vietnam appeared on the world map as a sovereign nation, sending a strong message to other oppressed peoples that liberation was possible.

The German expert stressed that this event has great historical value, demonstrating the victory of national unity, resilience and the will to decide one's own destiny. Globally, the August Revolution inspired anti-colonial movements and contributed to the wave of decolonization after World War II.

Furthermore, Professor, Dr. Brie believes that the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, is not only a great achievement of the Vietnamese people but also a "beacon" of hope for those fighting against imperialism throughout Asia, Africa and Latin America.

According to him, the Vietnamese people's will for independence, self-reliance and self-reliance is considered one of the key factors contributing to the success of the August Revolution. That spirit has been vividly demonstrated throughout the history of resistance and development of the Vietnamese nation.

During the two resistance wars against France and the US, the will for independence, self-reliance and self-reliance was demonstrated through mass movements, mass participation and deep national pride.

The Vietnamese people from all walks of life contributed to the struggle for national liberation, proving that under the steadfast leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, unity and determination can defeat even the most powerful enemies.

A spirit that lives forever

Professor Brie believes that Vietnam has continued to promote this spirit of resilience since the war. Despite facing embargoes, natural disasters and pandemics, Vietnam has focused on building a self-reliant economy, promoting innovation and social solidarity. Policies encouraging domestic production, investing in education and health, and international strategic partnerships all reflect that the spirit of the August Revolution continues to shape Vietnam’s path forward.

80 years since gaining independence, Vietnam - a country devastated by war, has increasingly made positive and proactive contributions to the international community.

Professor, Dr. Brie expressed his impression of Vietnam's growing role in the international arena. From a poor, backward country devastated by war, Vietnam has risen to become an active and responsible member of the international community.

Vietnam has contributed to peacekeeping missions, taken a leading role in ASEAN, and hosted many major international events, including the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit and the US-North Korea Summit. Vietnam has also played a constructive role as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. These efforts demonstrate Vietnam’s commitment to multilateralism, dialogue, and sustainable development in peace with its neighbors.

Professor, Dr. Brie said that with stable growth, a dynamic economy and a consistent foreign policy towards peace and cooperation, Vietnam is increasingly respected in international forums and is a reliable partner in addressing global challenges, such as climate change, health crises and regional security.

In addition, according to Professor, Dr. Brie, Vietnam's socio-economic achievements since the beginning of Doi Moi in 1986 are remarkable. What impressed him most was the country's transformation from one of the poorest countries in the world to a dynamic middle-income economy in the region.

Poverty reduction has been remarkable, with millions of people lifted out of poverty. He also said that Vietnam's ability to combine rapid economic growth with social progress is admirable.

Vietnam has also made great strides in education, health care and infrastructure. Its dynamic manufacturing sector, growing digital economy and expanding middle class demonstrate the country’s resilience and adaptability. Moreover, its response to challenges – whether financial crises, pandemics or climate change – has demonstrated strong governance and public engagement.

These achievements reflect the enduring strength of the Vietnamese people, their commitment to comprehensive and sustainable development, and the strong leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
