Domestic rice prices on April 29: Rice prices increased slightly, paddy prices decreased.

In the Mekong Delta, the rice market today recorded mixed developments. Rice prices increased slightly while paddy prices tended to decrease. Some warehouses began preparing for the holiday, slowing down transactions and not much goods were brought to the market.

In areas such as An Giang, Lap Vo (Dong Thap) and Cai Be (Tien Giang), trading activities were slow and prices were relatively stable. Some places recorded a slight increase in raw rice, such as CL 555 increased to 8,400 - 8,700 VND/kg, IR 504 reached 8,050 - 8,250 VND/kg. Jasmine rice remained high at 17,000 - 18,000 VND/kg, OM 5451 fluctuated from 9,600 - 9,750 VND/kg. Finished rice and regular rice such as IR 504, OM 380, Nang Hoa 9 generally did not fluctuate much.

At the retail market in An Giang, rice prices remained unchanged. Fragrant rice was commonly priced at VND18,000 - 22,000/kg, while regular rice was priced at VND15,000 - 16,000/kg. Some special varieties such as Nang Nhen rice were sold at the highest price of VND28,000/kg, while Japanese and Jasmine rice remained at VND22,000/kg.

The glutinous rice market is also stable. Fresh IR 4625 glutinous rice remains at 7,700 - 7,900 VND/kg, while dried glutinous rice remains at around 9,600 - 9,700 VND/kg. Meanwhile, by-products such as broken rice 2 increased slightly to 7,100 - 7,200 VND/kg, while rice husks and bran remain at the same price.

Regarding rice, dry transactions were slow in provinces such as An Giang, Can Tho, Kien Giang and Long An. Rice prices were generally stable but showed signs of slight decline in some varieties. IR 50404 rice in An Giang decreased to 5,800 - 6,000 VND/kg, OM 5451 to 6,400 - 6,600 VND/kg. Dai Thom 8 rice decreased slightly, fluctuating between 6,900 - 7,000 VND/kg. Other fragrant and regular rice varieties also had prices fluctuating between 5,800 - 7,000 VND/kg.

Rice export prices stable, Vietnam maintains major supply position

In the world market, Vietnam's rice export prices have not fluctuated. 5% broken rice remains at 395 USD/ton. 25% broken rice reaches 368 USD/ton, while 100% broken standard rice remains at 323 USD/ton.

From the beginning of the year to April 15, 2025, Vietnam exported 2.85 million tons of rice, up 6.4% over the same period last year. However, due to the average export price of rice decreasing by 20.1%, the turnover only reached 1.47 billion USD, down nearly 15%.

Meanwhile, Thai rice prices increased by $6 to $406 per ton. Rice of the same type in India and Pakistan also increased slightly. The Philippines market continues to be the largest destination for Vietnamese rice with more than 907,000 tons imported, accounting for the majority of the total 1.08 million tons of rice imported by this country since the beginning of the year.

The Philippine Plant Quarantine Bureau has approved a total of 1.89 million tons of rice imports. However, the country's import pace is slowing compared to the same period in 2024, when it averaged only 270,000 tons per month.
