According to the Domestic Market Department, the Tet shopping atmosphere on the last day of the Year of the Cat is still quite bustling, the supply of goods is abundant, and purchasing power has decreased slightly compared to previous days.
This year, people tend to focus on shopping later than previous years, with purchases gradually increasing in the week after December 23 due to having to balance shopping plans with year-end salaries and bonuses.
On the 30th of Tet, most consumers only focus on buying fresh food, green vegetables, flowers and fruits to make offerings for the New Year's Eve. Other items (dried goods, cakes, candies, alcohol, soft drinks, etc.) have been purchased in the previous days. People shop at markets and supermarkets all day on the 30th of Tet.
The supply of goods for Tet at supermarkets, shopping malls, and convenience stores is very rich and diverse, combined with a number of promotional programs and deep discounts, so prices are stable compared to normal days and only slightly increased compared to last year's Tet (mainly increased during the year) due to increased input prices.
Commodity prices are stable on the 30th of Tet.
With guaranteed product quality, convenient shopping for many types, stable prices, many items priced lower than in traditional markets, home delivery... modern distribution models are increasingly attracting customers.
In traditional markets, supply has also increased and is quite abundant, but shopping demand is lower than last year, mainly focusing on fresh foods, fruits and vegetables. Prices tend to increase compared to normal days, but there is no shortage of goods or unreasonable price increases.
Up to now, the prices of most essential goods for Tet have not increased dramatically, pork prices are stable compared to the 29th and equivalent to last year. The price of large tiger shrimp has increased by about 5% or equivalent to previous days.
Prices of high-quality rice and sticky rice are stable because people have been shopping since before Tet. Some other goods such as chicken and beef have the same price as on the 29th of Tet.
Prices of fruits for offerings increased by about 5%; prices of fresh flowers and vegetables remained stable compared to the previous day. Compared to the same period last year, prices of vegetables and some flowers such as chrysanthemums, lilies, gladiolus, and roses were about 5-15% cheaper and there was no shortage.
The fresh food market was relatively active on the 30th of Tet. As usual, pork prices tend to increase slightly in the days leading up to Tet due to high demand, but supply is still guaranteed to meet consumer demand. Beef and chicken prices increased by 5-15% compared to normal days.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the abundant and diverse supply of goods helps consumers have many choices when shopping during Tet. In addition, supermarkets and convenience stores open until the end of the 30th of Tet and resume service soon after Tet, helping to limit people's psychology of stockpiling goods, so prices generally do not fluctuate much.
