The Forum is organized to promote the development and application of sustainable technology, meeting the needs of socio-economic development and sustainable development goals of Vietnam; supporting experts and businesses in the field of energy and environment to share knowledge, exchange experiences and seek effective technological solutions to increase energy efficiency and protect the environment.
The Forum aims to promote research and development of advanced technology, and promote technology transfer from domestic and foreign organizations, in order to contribute to enhancing research capacity and ensuring sustainable development in the fields of energy and environment.
Speaking at the opening of the forum, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Van Tung said: Developing advanced energy technology associated with environmental protection is an inevitable trend in the country's socio-economic development and towards building a "green" and modern economy.
The development of environmentally friendly energy sources, especially renewable energy sources, in parallel with fossil energy sources is becoming increasingly important in the energy source structure, thereby contributing to gradually solving the problem of Vietnam's increasing energy demand; helping to diversify energy sources, disperse risks, enhance and ensure national energy security, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat global climate change.
In recent times, the Party and the State have issued many policies and guidelines to encourage the development of energy and the environment in Vietnam. In 2020, the Ministry of Science and Technology advised and submitted to the Prime Minister Decision No. 2117/QD-TTg on the List of priority technologies for research, development and application to proactively participate in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, in which one of the four priority areas for research, development and application of technology is energy and the environment.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Science and Technology coordinates with ministries, ministerial-level agencies, People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities and relevant organizations and individuals based on Decision No. 2117/QD-TTg and other relevant legal provisions to orient and prioritize resource allocation for research, development and application of energy and environmental technology.
The Forum was divided into 2 sessions: Presentation Session and Discussion Session. At the Presentation Session, representatives of domestic and foreign enterprises presented on contents related to New Technology Trends and recommendations on research, transfer and mastery of Energy and Environment technology.
At the discussion session, leading enterprises in the field of energy and environmental technology at home and abroad also introduced solutions such as: Technology in biomass waste electricity production, green hydrogen and carbon recovery; Solar panel processing technology; solutions for controlling waste-to-energy operations and wastewater treatment supported by AI; minimizing the impact of vRE sources on the current power grid; solutions for converting Biomass and waste into energy.
Accordingly, experts suggest that Vietnam needs to form and develop a renewable energy technology market, create equality on the basis of healthy competition between enterprises of all economic sectors, and support the development of renewable energy production, business and service projects.

At the Seminar, representatives of the Department of Technology Development (Ministry of Science and Technology), representatives of the Department of Energy Conservation (Ministry of Industry and Trade), representatives of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade as well as a number of enterprises exchanged and discussed the topics of science and technology policies for research, transfer, application and development of energy and environmental technology; policies for developing green energy, energy conversion; investment orientation and development of energy - environment of Hanoi City...
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Thang - Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade said that for Hanoi, energy transition is the top priority because it is primarily related to power supply for the capital. Therefore, to ensure power supply, a series of criteria and goals must be set.
“When the Central Government issued Resolution 55 and related to sectoral planning, energy, and electricity planning, we, as a state agency, also advised the City Party Committee and the City People's Committee to issue plans, programs, and projects to be implemented immediately after the policies were issued,” said Mr. Thang.
Specifically, in terms of electricity, Hanoi uses more than 10% of the country's energy. At the same time, the city is also implementing waste-to-energy projects such as the Soc Son waste-to-energy project, the Seraphin waste project, and is currently planning to have two more waste-to-energy plants in the South of the city, with the goal of processing nearly 8,000 tons of waste per day and night for the whole of Hanoi.
In addition, Hanoi also launched a series of events and programs related to businesses and people such as the program on efficient energy use, the program on cleaner energy use, the program on limiting the use of plastic bags in commerce and consumption, etc.
"We have mobilized leading enterprises in industrial parks and industrial clusters to switch to cleaner production; are collecting opinions on the circular economy plan throughout the city; and have a plan to implement production associated with ensuring a green and clean environment," said the Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade.
