On the afternoon of April 9, Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province Nguyen Huong Giang chaired a meeting to discuss solutions to handle the riverbank landslide incident from K49+750 ÷ K49+800 on the right dike of Cau (Van An ward, Bac Ninh city).

According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the People's Committee of Bac Ninh City, the landslide incident on the riverbank from K49+750 ÷ K49+800 on the right bank of Cau, Van An ward, which appeared from the beginning of March 2024 until now, has caused 6 houses to collapse into the river and forced the evacuation of dozens of households from the dangerous area.

"Through inspection, it was found that the houses adjacent to the houses that have collapsed continue to have cracks in the walls and floors, causing the risk of landslides affecting people's lives and property and the safety of the dike in this area," the People's Committee of Bac Ninh City reported at the meeting.

At the meeting, Permanent Vice Chairman of Bac Ninh Provincial People's Committee Vuong Quoc Tuan and leaders of relevant departments and branches focused on proposing solutions to effectively handle the above incident.

Immediately afterwards, Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province Nguyen Huong Giang assigned the People's Committee of Bac Ninh city to regularly monitor and update developments in the area, and implement handling measures according to the "4 on-site" motto to promptly overcome incidents when they continue to arise, spread or encroach deep into the dike body.

"I request that all households living within the incident area be urgently evacuated to safe temporary shelters; and that we focus on dismantling structures that have collapsed to limit the load on the riverbank in this area, reducing the risk of landslides," said Ms. Nguyen Huong Giang.

In addition, Ms. Giang requested to review all households living in landslide areas and neighboring areas at risk to assess, classify, develop and approve relocation and resettlement plans as soon as possible to ensure safety and stabilize people's lives.

Organize a review of boats anchored on the river in Van Phuc area to propose measures for handling and clearance; develop a plan to propagate and mobilize people to donate to support affected families, and at the same time mobilize all social resources to support people in affected areas.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinates with relevant sectors and the People's Committee of Bac Ninh City to strictly implement the instructions of the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee on performing the tasks in the decision to announce the emergency situation and solutions to ensure safety in the landslide incident area corresponding to K49+750 ÷ K49+800 right dike of Cau, Van An ward.

Regularly dispatch staff to directly inspect the incident scene to provide professional guidance; continue to direct the City Dike Management Department to coordinate with local authorities to regularly monitor and update the incident situation for timely reporting.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinated with the consulting unit to urgently conduct a survey of the terrain and geology, assess the causes and propose solutions to handle the landslide incident from K49+750 ÷ K49+800 of the right dike of the Bridge and areas at risk of landslides in the Van Phuc area.

The Department of Planning and Investment and the Department of Finance advise and propose funding arrangements to implement incident handling measures; the Department of Natural Resources and Environment and the Department of Construction guide the People's Committee of Bac Ninh City to urgently develop a plan for site clearance and resettlement for households living in the landslide area.
