Proposal to set Asian Record for the person who made the collection of 1,129 paintings of Bodhidharma

After establishing the Vietnam Record in 2023, the collection of 1,129 Bodhidharma paintings is being submitted to the Asia Records Organization to request confirmation of establishing an Asian Record.

Venerable Thich Vien Thanh - Abbot of Van Hanh Zen Monastery (Lam Vien Ward - Da Lat, Lam Dong Province), said: The collection of 1,129 Bodhidharma paintings drawn by him, which had set a Vietnamese Record in 2023, is now submitting the dossier to the Asian Record Organization so that this organization can recognize Venerable Thich Vien Thanh as the person who made the most Bodhidharma oil paintings on canvas to display in temples in Asia.

According to Venerable Thich Vien Thanh, he began drawing Bodhidharma, a Zen master with extraordinary thoughts, in 2012. The image of Bodhidharma carrying a single sandal around the world to spread the Dharma is very famous and familiar to Eastern countries, including Vietnam.

For a monk like Venerable Thich Vien Thanh, he considers drawing the Patriarch Bodhidharma as a form of practice. Practicing Zen and practicing Zen through the beauty of visual arts.
