Many students attending the admissions and career counseling session at Tien Giang University this morning, March 9, were shared experiences in applying for university admissions by experts to increase their chances of admission.

Before applying for university admission, where to find information?

At the consultation session, many students expressed concern about the fact that there are currently too many admission methods at universities and the registration process is also "complicated".

MSc. Hoang Thuy Nga - senior expert of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training), said that after the high school exam results are available, candidates will register for university and college admissions, expected in July 2024.

Candidates can register an unlimited number of wishes. This year, candidates continue to apply for admission using all admission methods on the admission system of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Candidates can only be admitted to one wish and only need to register for their favorite major, without having to register to choose the admission method or combination on the system.

"Students should look up information in the admission regulations and admission plans on the school's website. In addition to information about majors, conditions, and admission criteria, they should also learn about previous years' benchmark scores, additional criteria, and tuition fees.

Besides, you need to clearly understand the job position and your own abilities before choosing a major to register for. In fact, many students only realize after being admitted that the major is not suitable for them," Ms. Nga advised.

At the end of the registration period, the Ministry of Education and Training will announce the schedule for paying the registration fee. Candidates this year will also pay the registration fee online.

Ms. Nga also noted that schools currently have many different admission methods. Candidates must register according to the schools' instructions for early admission methods. If they receive notification that they are eligible for admission, candidates must still register again on the Ministry of Education and Training's system.

It is expected that in August 2024, schools will announce the results of the first round of admission. Successful candidates must complete the admission confirmation procedure on the Ministry's system. Failure to confirm admission means that the admission result is rejected. At that time, they must wait for additional admission in the next rounds if the schools still have quotas.

Should register for multiple admission methods

A female student wondered: "With so many admission methods at universities, it takes us a lot of time to find information. So, according to teachers, which method should I register for to easily get into university?"

MSc. Nguyen Thai Chau - Director of the Center for Admissions and Corporate Relations of the University of Finance and Marketing - said that when applying for admission through many different methods, candidates will have a higher chance of being admitted.

However, Mr. Chau noted: "In fact, the enrollment information of schools in 2024 is different from 2023 with many changes. If there is a mistake, the entire enrollment process will be wrong and affect the enrollment results. Therefore, candidates must carefully read the school's enrollment plan."

Answering questions from many candidates regarding whether Ho Chi Minh City National University considers high school transcripts or not, Dr. Pham Tan Ha - Vice Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - said that students from specialized schools on the list of 149 high schools nationwide will be given priority for admission to member schools of Ho Chi Minh City National University. This method considers high school academic results.

"Our school has a method of considering academic records for candidates with excellent achievements, especially outstanding in social activities, arts, and sports. Accordingly, students who participate in activities and win prizes and are granted membership certificates of the clubs they participate in will be able to use this method.

You need to carefully study the admission methods. If you find yourself qualified for any method, you should register to increase your chances of being admitted to university. But remember to choose the major you love," Mr. Ha advised.

Early May 2024 officially register for high school graduation exam

Also according to MSc. Hoang Thuy Nga, the regulations for the 2024 high school graduation exam were just announced by the Ministry of Education and Training yesterday, March 8. Basically, this year's high school graduation exam will remain stable as in previous years, with no changes in the exam subjects.

However, this year's regulations are more specific than those related to candidates, with special attention paid to items that are "prohibited from being brought into the exam room" including: carbon paper, erasers, alcoholic beverages; weapons and explosives, flammable substances; documents, communication devices or information storage devices that can be used to cheat during the exam and marking process.

"This regulation aims to overcome the problem of items candidates are allowed to bring into the exam room related to high-tech devices banned from being brought into the exam room in 2023. Thus, candidates can rest assured that in the upcoming exam, they have been fully equipped by teachers with the knowledge to be able to do well on the exam," said Ms. Nga.

It is expected that the trial exam will be registered at the end of April 2024 and the official registration for the high school graduation exam will be made at the beginning of May 2024. All registration forms are done online on the common system of the Ministry of Education and Training, or the National Public Service Portal.

Each candidate will be provided with an account to register for the high school graduation exam and use it throughout the university and college admissions process.
