(NLDO) - Gung Re landfill (Di Linh district, Lam Dong province) caught fire on the afternoon of March 29 and spread, causing thousands of people to worry about the smoke and dust pollution.
On the afternoon of March 30, the authorities of Di Linh district (Lam Dong province) were actively controlling the fire at the Gung Re landfill (Gung Re commune) to prevent the fire from spreading and smoke from here flying into surrounding residential areas.
Initial information shows that the fire started on the afternoon of March 29 and continued to spread, now covering the entire multi-hectare landfill, threatening to spread to people's gardens and the pine forest next door.
At the scene, the entire Gung Re landfill, which covers several hectares, is on fire. Some areas of garbage have burned down but smoke is still smoldering.
Gung Re landfill is burning fiercely, sending smoke all around.
Currently, the two villages of Hang Hai and Hang Lang next to the landfill have been affected by the fire because of the smoke and dust, giving off a burning and foul smell. "The smell of smoke and dust from the fire has made us uncomfortable since yesterday. If it continues, no one will be able to live there," said Mr. Nguyen Quang T. - a resident of Hang Hai village indignantly.
This landfill has stopped accepting waste since March 1, 2025 due to overload. Currently, authorities are trying to control the fire as well as limit the pollution caused by this fire.
Many landfill areas are still smoking.
