Develop existing strengths

Mr. Nguyen Van Chinh - Vice Chairman of Dam Rong 2 Commune People's Committee said: "In recent times, the locality has promoted the conversion of crop structure, focusing on promoting agricultural strengths; restructuring the agricultural sector in all fields, enhancing the application of science and technology in production. In addition, transferring science and technology; implementing policies to support agricultural and rural production to gradually develop high-tech agriculture, smart agriculture, converting from agricultural production to agricultural economy, linking production, processing, preservation, distribution to product consumption".

Thanks to that, many effective agricultural production models in localities have gradually been formed, contributing to increasing people's income. Up to now, the total cultivated area is 6,462.1 ha; of which annual crops are 893.8 ha; perennial crops are 5,568.3 ha; 550 ha of ineffective crops have been converted to crops with higher economic value (durian, old coffee, mulberry, honey pineapple...).

In Ro Men village 2, the Dam Rong Honey Pineapple Cooperative Group (THT) was established in 2021 with 7 members/11 hectares. To date, the group has increased to 17 members/23 hectares; of which 17 hectares are harvested with an estimated output of more than 400 tons/year. Mr. Ybang - one of the members of the THT shared: "Pineapple is easy to grow, requires little care, and can be harvested in less than 14 months, and can be harvested for 6 months each year, mainly from April to July. The price is not high but the output is stable".

According to Mr. Nguyen Minh Thang - Head of the Dam Rong Honey Pineapple Cooperative: “The Cooperative is a model that attracts farming households with the goal of reducing poverty and building a family economy from honey pineapple. We hope that the local government will promote to households with small, idle land areas to switch to growing pineapples instead of other short-term, ineffective crops. At the same time, plan the growing area and expand to other communes in the area.”

Link, consume products

To increase product value and competitiveness in the market, Dam Rong 2 commune has formed production and consumption chains such as durian production chain, mulberry cultivation and silkworm raising chain... Currently, the whole commune has 12 products recognized as 3-star OCOP with traceability stamps. Along with that, there are 10 cooperatives operating in the fields of agriculture and services. In addition, the commune also has 14 effective cooperative groups and 41.27 hectares of crops certified by VietGAP.

The restructuring of the local agricultural sector is clearly demonstrated by the continued development of the livestock industry, gradually shifting from small-scale, dispersed livestock farming to concentrated livestock farming according to the farm model. Up to now, the total livestock herd is 2,168 heads, the poultry herd is 37,000 heads. Cold-water fish farming continues to develop strongly, with a total water surface area of 10.7 hectares for cold-water fish farming/70 households, an increase of 3.5 hectares compared to 2020, with an average output of about 1,000 tons/year, and an average profit of about 110 - 140 million VND/100 m2 of water surface/year.

According to the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dam Rong 2 Commune, in the coming time, the locality will continue to promote the development of green agriculture and circular agriculture; restructure the agricultural sector towards developing large raw material areas, mainly coffee trees, fruit trees including durian, pineapple, mangosteen, rambutan, mulberry trees associated with the renovation of mixed gardens, promoting the application of high-tech agricultural production for high productivity, quality, efficiency, and added value. At the same time, pay attention to, encourage, and integrate resources to continue to form and expand production links, agricultural value chains associated with preliminary processing, processing, and product consumption...
