Previously, at noon on August 8, the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center Region III received information from the ship ANDROUSA, Liberian nationality (on its way to China), about: The ship GT UNITY was on fire at the coordinates 07º09'48"N-107°29'12"E (about 192 nautical miles South Southeast of Vung Tau Cape, about 105 nautical miles South Southeast of Con Dao).

By 3:20 p.m. the same day, all 20 injured crew members of the GT UNITY were safely rescued by the ANDROUSA, including a crew member (electrician) who was severely burned and is receiving medical care.

The Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center Region III dispatched the SAR 413 ship to receive the distressed crew members from the ANDROUSA ship and bring them ashore. The Ho Chi Minh City Border Guard Command directed the Border Guard Command of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Port to proactively contact the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center Region III, coordinate with the Ho Chi Minh City Maritime Port Authority, local medical forces, and ship owners (shipping agents) to have a plan to organize the reception; provide medical care and hand over the 20 distressed crew members.
