Thanh Hoa city is considered one of the most attractive and dynamic cities in the North Central region and the South of the Red River Delta, along with Vinh city (Nghe An province) and Hue city (Thua Thien Hue province), it is one of the three urban areas with the largest population and area in the North Central region. Dong Son district is a locality with a historical and revolutionary tradition of Thanh Hoa province, located at the gateway, adjacent to the West of Thanh Hoa city, with favorable conditions and synchronous development of transport infrastructure, trade and services. In recent years, Dong Son has made great strides in economic development; culture and society have many positive changes.

Therefore, when merging Dong Son district, Thanh Hoa city will expand its urban space, build and become a class I urban area, the political - administrative, economic, cultural - social, scientific and technical center of the province. At the same time, the new city will carry many layers of history and traditional culture, including the tradition and cultural history of the Ma River Delta and Dong Son culture. This is one of the values ​​that contributes to affirming the position and brand of the economic, political and administrative center of Thanh Hoa province.

In order for the new city to develop stably and promote its potentials and advantages, the preservation of cultural values ​​plays a very important role. Our Party believes in building an advanced culture with strong national identity, therefore, authorities at all levels, units and responsible agencies must pay more attention to cultural issues, so that cultural characteristics are not lost. Even though Dong Son district is merged into Thanh Hoa city, the name Dong Son is no longer an administrative boundary, but the name Dong Son still exists, Dong Son culture is still preserved and promoted, contributing to the development of the cultural identity of Thanh in particular and the Vietnamese people in general.
