Clip: QA Located in Nghi Loc district, the Nghi Quang sluice gate system is one of the largest flood drainage gates of the Southern Irrigation System (along with Ben Thuy sluice gate and Nam Dan sluice gate). In addition to flood drainage, the sluice gate also has the function of preventing salinity and keeping fresh water for production and irrigation of more than 20,000 hectares of crops. Currently, all 12 gates are damaged and corroded. In 2020, the Provincial People's Committee had a policy to repair and upgrade Nghi Quang sluice gate, however, only 6 gates have been repaired so far. The remaining 6 flat valve gates (lower wings) are still not able to be repaired. Photo: QA Due to its inability to prevent salinity, bara is often inundated with saltwater. Photo: QA The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nghi Loc district said: Due to the deterioration of Nghi Quang bara, the production water (from Cam River to the sea) in the area is often contaminated with salt, directly affecting 1,000 hectares of rice in the communes of Nghi Thuan, Nghi Hung, Nghi Yen, Nghi Tien, Nghi Thiet, Nghi Quang... If Nghi Quang bara is not repaired promptly, these areas will be forced to stop production in the coming years. Photo: QA
