What is special about these digital schools?

Connected Lesson

In the summer of 2025, Ms. Huynh Ngoc - a parent at Van Don Secondary School, Xom Chieu Ward, Ho Chi Minh City - spent 30-45 minutes every day studying with her child on the school's online system.

"My child just finished 6th grade at Van Don Secondary School. During the three-month summer vacation at home, I was afraid that my child would forget his knowledge, while the school's LMS system already had lectures from teachers in the school.

At first, every day my child and I went to LMS to review the lectures or do some exercises from the 6th grade program to consolidate knowledge. On days when he was diligent, he could watch more lectures from some subjects in the 7th grade program. After a few weeks, when he got used to it, my child logged into LMS to study and do his homework. I absolutely did not let him go to extra classes."

Ms. Ngoc also commented: "Students today have many learning tools, unlike us in the past. The online learning system LMS is an example, very convenient and effective. Even when I let my child go back to the countryside to visit his grandparents, he still goes to LMS to study without being interrupted like in-person learning."

Meanwhile, at Nguyen Thai Hoc Primary School, Ben Thanh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, from the second semester of the 2024-2025 school year, 4th grade students have had lessons connecting with students of the same age at Dongsan Primary School, South Korea.

"Every month, Nguyen Thai Hoc students will have an online class with Dongsan students about the culture and cuisine of the two countries; school traditions... taught by teachers from the two schools taking turns teaching.

Then the students discussed the current situation and worked on projects related to water resource protection and environmental protection..." - Ms. Tran Be Hong Hanh, principal of Nguyen Thai Hoc Primary School, informed.

More than just facilities

Nguyen Thai Hoc and Van Don schools are two of the first 100 schools in Ho Chi Minh City to be recognized as meeting digital school standards.

Ms. Le Thi Thuy, principal of Van Don Secondary School, said: "By the summer of 2025, the school will have uploaded 100% of lectures along with the system of exercises, tests, and assessments of all subjects from grades 6 to 9 to the LMS system.

In the 2025-2026 school year, our school will also implement 100% digital transcripts. In terms of facilities, they are quite complete. In addition to digital classrooms, all classrooms in Van Don are equipped with multi-touch smart boards..."

Nguyen Thai Hoc School also has a digital library. Each student has their own account and can log in to read books anywhere, anytime from the school's online bookstore.

"In addition to the digital learning materials and digital lectures like other schools, we also bought software to build a 3D learning materials warehouse to support teachers in teaching social sciences, history - geography, math, literature...

To implement the digital school model, the school has upgraded the transmission bandwidth system. When WiFi is strong enough, teachers will be able to freely exploit digital learning materials and apply them in their lessons.

At Nguyen Thai Hoc, teachers can connect directly with experts right in their lessons to increase the liveliness and effectiveness such as: connecting with traffic police, experts in various fields..." - Ms. Hong Hanh analyzed.

However, Ms. Hanh believes that building a digital school is not just about investing money to buy modern equipment.

"The key is to operate the digital school effectively, taking advantage of all the modern facilities. This requires the consensus of both teachers and parents. Therefore, we not only organize training sessions for teachers but also require homeroom teachers to clearly state in parent meetings about the digital school.

In addition to explaining to parents how students will benefit, it is necessary to guide them on how to accompany their children in using digital lectures and digital libraries..." - Ms. Hanh concluded.

Recognizing the first 100 digital schools

On April 28, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee decided to recognize the first 100 digital schools. This is a project to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day. The first 100 digital schools recognized by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee are primary, secondary and high schools that meet all six component standards.

Specifically, digital institutions; digital facilities and infrastructure; digital data; digital human resources; digital administration and management; digital education . The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee said that based on the above standards, educational institutions will determine their goals, orientations, and development to meet the standards of digital school models. The goal is to move towards a strong change in administrative and educational activities at the unit in the direction of digital transformation.

Invite experts to train

This summer, many digital schools in Ho Chi Minh City invited experts to train teachers to make the most of their digital infrastructure. For example, Nguyen Thai Hoc School trained on artificial intelligence, while Tran Quoc Toan 1 Secondary School in Binh Trung Ward organized a Google Certified Educator Level 2 class for teachers.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hang, principal of Tran Quoc Toan 1 Secondary School, said: "The school aims to build a digital classroom and digital school in a systematic and comprehensive manner, not only to perform well in teaching but also to manage students in a digital environment.

In the coming school year, the school will coordinate with partners to design and build more digital programs suitable for students' learning and training. For example, implementing a drone club will help students have the opportunity to access and become familiar with programming. This is a new highlight of the school in the coming school year as a digital school."
