Ms. Vo Thi Thanh Nga, President of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Can Tho City, presented money, address support and a symbolic board to support livelihoods for the victim's family in Cai Rang ward.

The war is over but the pain of Agent Orange is still deep. Agent Orange has destroyed nature, destroyed human health, and caused many serious diseases. Victims of Agent Orange are no longer able to produce, have no source of income, and their quality of life is affected. In order to join hands to ease the pain, in recent times, Party committees, authorities and people at all levels have always cared, shared, and helped victims overcome difficulties and strive to improve their lives.

In particular, in the 10 years of implementing Directive No. 43-CT/TW of the Secretariat on "Strengthening the Party's leadership in dealing with the consequences of toxic chemicals used by the US during the war in Vietnam", in addition to the state budget for subsidies and support for victims, the city has mobilized more than 167 billion VND to care for and help victims of Agent Orange. Of which, the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin at all levels mobilized 86 billion VND, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and socio- political organizations mobilized over 81 billion VND. This amount has helped more than 191,000 disadvantaged victims to improve their lives. Specifically, 337 houses have been built and repaired; regular subsidies according to red addresses have been provided to 1,917 victims; interest-free capital has been provided to 504 victims and their families; granted 2,363 scholarships and school supplies; supported vocational training costs for 30 victims; gave wheelchairs, hand-held scooters, bicycles and three-wheeled motorbikes to 336 victims; gave 162 health insurance cards to members and caregivers of victims in difficult circumstances; visited and gave over 163,500 gifts on holidays, Tet and Agent Orange Victims Day; mobilized the construction of 10 new traffic bridges.

Over the past 10 years, the interest-free capital support program alone has helped 504 victims and their families develop their family economy . On the occasion of the 64th anniversary of Vietnam Agent Orange Victims Day, the Association of Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims of Can Tho City supported 6 victims with livelihood capital, each household from 5-10 million VND to develop their family economy. Receiving 10 million VND in capital support, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Nga in Area 1, Binh Thuy Ward, could not hide her emotion. Ms. Nga shared that her family is very poor, her daughter is a victim of Agent Orange, 20 years old but paralyzed, all personal activities depend on her help. She herself has a thyroid tumor and has to take care of her elderly mother who suffered a stroke... With the support of 10 million VND in livelihood capital from the Association of Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims, she will supplement her capital to do small business at home, and have income to improve her family's life.

From 2022 to present, the City-wide Association of Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims has built a community model to care for Agent Orange victims in many communes and wards with many activities, such as: community health teams to take care of victims' health at home, develop family livelihoods, care for adolescent victims and women to take care of elderly parents, raise young children...

Ms. Vo Thi Thanh Nga, President of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Can Tho City, said: “The association has implemented a plan to organize activities for the Day for Victims of Agent Orange, focusing on establishing delegations to visit, give gifts, and encourage victims and their families. The Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Can Tho City hopes that sectors and levels in the city will continue to pay attention and do a good job of caring for and helping victims of Agent Orange because this is a group that still faces many difficulties, as former President Nguyen Minh Triet once said, “Agent Orange victims are the poorest of the poor, the most miserable of the miserable.” Thereby, helping victims and their families overcome the pain and strive to improve their lives.”
