In recent times, the forestry sector has been continuously implementing digital transformation with the goal of increasing the application of information technology in directing, operating and managing work. Along with that, ensuring information security in operating, exploiting, using management systems and applying specialized software to manage, protect and develop forests...

In 2023, the Forestry Department established a Steering Committee. Digital transformation in the forestry sector. This year, the Department directed the completion of the list of specialized databases under its management and issued specific plans and roadmaps to build and deploy the databases in the list.
The Department has upgraded and improved the forestry management information system (FORMIS) to meet the requirements of data structure and standardization, ensuring the installation, integration and connection of specialized software and applications into the system.
Up to now, 100% of documents are processed online (except for documents according to regulations); upgrading and operating the online reporting system to serve management and operations. Establishing and processing a centralized database on the FORMIS system.
The Forestry Department has directed its affiliated agencies to maintain the application of information technology in handling administrative procedures. Through this, 100% of the procedures under the authority of the sector are updated and implemented on the electronic one-stop information portal of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. In addition, the Department has focused on improving the management and operation capacity of information technology infrastructure to ensure the technological environment and network information security.
Improving the capacity of forestry staff at all levels in implementing information technology applications and digital transformation in the forestry sector. Although certain results have been achieved, according to Deputy Director of the Forestry Department Pham Hong Luong, digital transformation is posing a rather heavy task for the forestry sector.
With this plan, the industry identifies implementation roadmaps to meet the country's overall goal of digital transformation. The specificity of Vietnam's forests is that they stretch from north to south, mainly in high, rugged mountainous areas, so the application of digital technology is difficult. In addition, with a forest area of more than 14 million hectares, managed and used by many different subjects, the application of technology faces many difficulties, especially in accessing users, infrastructure, etc.
Implementing digital transformation to serve forest management and protection, the Forest Protection Department has so far deployed information technology applications in forest fire forecasting and forest fire risk classification. Digital transformation is also being carried out in more than 90 national parks, nature reserves and landscape protection areas. National parks and forestry scientists have created algorithms to capture images and written software for internal use.
Currently, Cuc Phuong, Bach Ma, Pu Mat, Cat Ba, Bu Gia Map national parks... have applied digital technology in managing forests and rare animals, contributing effectively to forest protection.
Unit managers can update forest resource developments via phone. Automatic forest fire warnings help authorities proactively prevent and minimize damage caused by fires. In addition, forest management units of the forestry sector have also applied geographic information systems and remote sensing in sustainable forest resource management.
In 2024, the Forestry Department will focus on upgrading and improving the forestry management information system to meet the requirements of data structure and standardization, ensuring the installation, integration, and connection of specialized software and applications into the system. The Department has established a centralized database system, implemented data management on the FORMIS system; upgraded and operated the online reporting system to serve management and operation, and processed documents in the network environment.
In addition, the Department maintains the application of information technology in handling administrative procedures. Focusing on improving the management capacity and operation of information technology infrastructure; enhancing the capacity of staff at all levels in implementing information technology application and digital transformation in the forestry sector...
