Chinese President Xi Jinping visits former Premier Li Keqiang

A funeral service for former Premier Li, 68, was held at the Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery in Beijing on the morning of November 2, after he died suddenly of a heart attack in the early hours of October 27 in Shanghai.

Mr. Ly's body was cremated on the same day, November 2.

Standing next to his wife Peng Liyuan, President Xi Jinping bowed three times before the former Prime Minister's coffin.

CCTV footage shows President Xi expressing condolences to former Premier Li's wife, Cheng Hong, and the bereaved family.

Accompanying Xi was Premier Li Qiang and the entire Politburo Standing Committee, the top decision-making body of the Communist Party of China. Vice President Han Zheng was also present.

Chinese media reported that former President Hu Jintao, who was Li Keqiang's superior during his time at the Communist Party Youth League, sent a wreath to the funeral.

Millions of Chinese people expressed their condolences to former Premier Li Keqiang when they heard the news last week.

Li Keqiang served as China's Premier for two terms from 2013 to 2023. He stepped down in March.

Mr. Li was praised by the Communist Party of China as "an outstanding party member, a time-tested loyal communist soldier, and an outstanding proletarian revolutionary, a statesman and leader of the Party and the state."

All government buildings in China, overseas representative offices and agencies in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions fly flags at half-mast.

According to Caixin , outside the funeral, crowds also gathered along the cemetery's main roads to bid farewell to Mr. Li.
