According to a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, not only the airport, many highways also experienced local congestion when people from the Northern and Central provinces returned to the city to work after the Tet holiday.

On the afternoon of February 17, Tan Son Nhat International Airport said that during peak hours from 2 p.m. to 12 a.m., there were from 3,000 to nearly 5,000 passengers landing at the domestic terminal every hour. In particular, there were nearly 5,000 passengers on night flights from 11 p.m. to midnight.

The number of passengers arriving and departing through Tan Son Nhat Airport continued to record a record today with 969 flights and more than 154,000 passengers. This is the highest number recorded during the 2024 Lunar New Year holiday. Notably, in previous years, the record number of passengers often fell on the 5th and 6th of Tet, but this year, on the 8th of January, people are still flocking back to Ho Chi Minh City to work and study by air.

Of these, there will be 344 domestic flights to Ho Chi Minh City with an estimated 70,200 passengers. This is the highest number of domestic passengers flying to Tan Son Nhat on a single day during the peak of Tet.

Mr. Nguyen Van (residing in Tan Phu District, Ho Chi Minh City) said that his whole family drove from Nghe An to Ho Chi Minh City after Tet. On the afternoon of February 17, when they reached the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressway, the traffic was congested, and the traffic police forced his car and many other vehicles to detour down National Highway 1 through Xuan Loc (Dong Nai) instead of continuing on the expressway. Many other people traveling from Nam Dinh, Quang Binh , Ha Tinh... to Ho Chi Minh City when passing through the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressway said they were also stuck in traffic for a long time.

"Just on the road leading to this highway from National Highway 1 (Vinh Hao, Binh Thuan section), my car took more than 30 minutes to move because of traffic congestion. Hopefully there won't be any traffic jams on the highway to Ho Chi Minh City" - Mr. Ngoc Hanh (residing in Thu Duc City) complained to a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper.

At 6:00 p.m. on February 17, many drivers traveling on the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressway to Xuan Loc district ( Dong Nai ) said the expressway was closed and had to be diverted to National Highway 1.
