ChatGPT 4o is the best search product on the web

ChatGPT 4o is “pretty good” and “about to get a lot better,” Altman said in a post on X on Saturday. The OpenAI CEO retweeted posts praising the chatbot’s writing skills as “incredibly good” and its “human-like” abilities.

The GPT-4o model (with the "o" standing for omni) was originally released in May 2024 and impressed users with its ability to process text, audio, and images as input and output.

OpenAI recently touted GPT 4o's "smarter model," which provides "more relevant, current, and contextually accurate responses, especially to questions related to cultural and social trends."

It's unclear whether Altman is referring to the new ChatGPT 4o update, or the update the AI startup mentioned on January 29.

Altman's comments about GPT 4o's search capabilities came during a conversation with colleague Aravind Srinivas, founder and CEO of Perplexity, an AI startup focused on search.

Srinivas, who previously worked at OpenAI, responded to Altman's post about the GPT 4o update, saying: "excuse me, what is that update?" Altman responded: "among other things, it's the best search product on the web" and suggested his colleague Srinivas "give it a try."

According to research from Evercore ISI, ChatGPT's search market share increased sharply from June to November 2024, challenging Google's dominance in this lucrative field.
