Bordering Quang Ngai province and Nam Tra My district (old), Tam My mountainous commune was established on the basis of merging three communes: Tam My Dong, Tam My Tay and Tam Tra. The locality has two ethnic groups: Kinh and Co, of which the Co ethnic group lives concentrated in three villages: Phu Tho , Phu Tan, Phu Tu in Tam Tra commune (old).
In recent years, implementing the policies of the Party and State, localities have implemented many solutions to develop the socio -economy of the Co ethnic minority region.
In just 5 years (2021-2025), the State invested more than 11 billion VND in 3 villages with Co people to build 14 rural roads, with a total length of more than 2km; 47 irrigation works... Thanks to that, up to now, the rate of rural roads, alleys, and hamlets in the area where Co people live that are concreted has reached 90%.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dang, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Tam My commune, said that in terms of economy, the government and specialized agencies together with the Front and mass organizations support funding and provide technical guidance to help the Co ethnic people change their crop and livestock structure, bringing about quite high economic efficiency.
In agricultural production, along with continuing to guide people in growing rice, local authorities support mushroom growing, pepper growing, and poultry breeding models.
At the same time, support the livelihoods of the poor with 5 fruit garden models for 6 households, Dong Tao chicken farming model for 3 households, rotating cow farming model for 7 households, support for 57 households to raise freshwater fish and fruit tree planting models such as grapefruit, jackfruit...
Promoting the forestry strengths of Tam My mountainous commune, in recent years, the government - Front - mass organizations have promoted the benefits of forests, mobilizing people not to destroy forests to grow rice. Thereby, people have actively participated in forest management and protection.
Along with that, the locality completed the planning of 3 types of forests according to Decision No. 120/2017 of the People's Committee of Quang Nam province (old), and proceeded to allocate land and forests to households and individuals for management...
Thanks to that, by the end of 2024, there will be 22 poor Co ethnic households unable to escape poverty, accounting for 7.21% of the total number of ethnic minority households.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Dang (Co ethnic group in Phu Tan village, Tam My commune) said: "The economic life is stable, in recent years, the locality has restored and maintained the traditional cultural beauty of the Co ethnic group such as cheo dance, Tet nga ra, establishing a gong team, restoring the traditional festival to celebrate the new rice and worship the gods"...
