At the 5th Patriotic Emulation Congress of "Exemplary Veterans" of Lao Cai province (2024 - 2029), delegates discussed good and effective practices of the association, cadres and members of the veteran association in various fields in the period of 2019 - 2024. Exemplary veterans in new rural construction
The Veterans Association of Bao Thang district has 17 branches with more than 4,000 members. Over the years, veteran members of the district have always been exemplary and pioneers in implementing the movement of joining hands to build new rural areas and advanced new rural areas in the district.
Over the past 5 years, thanks to good propaganda work, veteran members in the district have clearly understood the role and significance of the new rural construction program. Cadres and members have actively participated and promoted exemplary roles in implementing each content and activity.
Over the past 5 years, in response to the new rural construction program, Veterans Associations at all levels have actively promoted and mobilized member families to contribute more than 500 million VND, donate more than 23,000 m2 of land, and contribute more than 5,700 working days to do projects and tasks.
Along with that, the exemplary veterans movement is also associated with the movement "All people participate in protecting national security" by the Association at all levels; building and effectively maintaining the model "Veterans participate in maintaining traffic safety", the model "Veterans coordinate with forces to protect border lines and landmarks"...
Help each other to do good business, eliminate hunger and reduce poverty
Sa Pa town is a highland locality, ethnic minorities account for more than 82%. Ethnic minorities live mainly on agricultural production; the rate of poor and near-poor households is high. Particularly among veterans, the rate of poor households accounts for 8.63% of member households; near-poor households account for 8.92%.
In recent years, the emulation movement "Exemplary Veterans" has always been carried out by all levels of the Association in conjunction with the movement "Veterans help each other reduce poverty and do good business". The Town Veterans Association directs all levels of the Association to guide and encourage cadres and members to promote the nature and tradition of "Uncle Ho's soldiers", uphold the spirit of self-reliance, and strive to develop the economy.
Currently, the town's veteran association members own 6 companies; 5 cooperatives; 44 farms, ranches; 19 hotels, motels and 63 homestays; maintain and care for 205 cold water fish ponds, 23 hectares of flowers, more than 22 hectares of cinnamon, more than 33 hectares of forest...
The town's Veterans Association always pays attention to and directs the grassroots Association to build a model of economic development linkage, helping each other reduce poverty, do good business, especially the cold-water fish farming model. The Association regularly directs the Associations at all levels to guide and inspect each branch and each member household to grasp the situation and remove difficulties. The branches guide members to complete procedures for bank loans, coordinate investment in building farms, and build product consumption linkage chains.
Up to now, many veteran families have escaped poverty and become rich. Many veterans have revenues from 500 million VND to 1 billion VND per year...
Compete to build a clean and strong Association
Lao Cai City Veterans Association has 19 grassroots Association organizations with nearly 5,000 members.
In order to compete to build a clean and strong Association, the City Veterans Association regularly grasps and effectively implements directives, resolutions and conclusions of superiors on innovation and improving the quality of organization and veterans' work in the new revolutionary period. The City Veterans Association has advised the City Party Committee to issue a Directive on "Strengthening the Party's leadership, improving the effectiveness of the Association's work and the veterans' movement in the new revolutionary period". Up to now, 17/17 Party Committees of communes and wards have had specialized resolutions on leading the Association's work and the veterans' movement.
The city's Veterans Associations at all levels proactively advise and propose to the Party Committees at the same level to build a contingent of cadres with sufficient quantity, strong political will, good qualities and ethics, ability and experience in mobilizing, uniting and gathering members; enthusiasm, responsibility, trust with the Party Committees, authorities, members and the people. The city's Veterans Association issued the Project "Improving the quality, organization, activities and efficiency of the activities of the Veterans Associations in residential areas". The Association organizations compete to strictly implement working regulations, practice collective leadership while promoting individual initiative, creativity and responsibility with the motto "Do all the work, do it well, work regardless of time".
Through that, the city currently has 4,997 members (an increase of more than 1,000 members compared to the beginning of 2019); 97% of veterans and former soldiers in the area participate in the Veterans Association. For many consecutive years, the City Veterans Association has been classified by the Provincial Veterans Association as having excellently completed its tasks.
Switching to new crops helps increase income
The Veterans Association of Si Ma Cai district has about 1,000 members. In order to compete in economic development, poverty reduction, and income improvement, the Associations at all levels in the district have coordinated to propagate and mobilize members to switch to new crops suitable to specific climate and soil conditions, especially the development of temperate fruit trees.
The Veterans Association has guided and supported members to borrow capital from the Social Policy Bank with a total amount of about 20 billion VND, helping members' families have capital to invest in economic development. In addition, the Association at all levels has coordinated with specialized units to focus on training and providing technical training on caring for and improving temperate fruit gardens in villages and hamlets to remove difficulties and obstacles for members and the people.
Currently, the district has 96 member households that have renovated and expanded temperate fruit gardens with an area of over 300 hectares. Members have also renovated and renovated the orchards into eco-tourism spots associated with the development of local goods, helping to increase income. Thanks to that, many members have escaped poverty, and their lives have been significantly improved. Nearly 45% of veteran members in the district have a good income or higher.
