From Tam Coc wharf, down the Ngo Dong River through Ca Cave is Tam Coc rice field - one of the 5 most beautiful rice fields in Vietnam (voted by travel site Business Insider). Along both banks of the river, stretching to the foot of the limestone mountain, the rice is ripe, turning a brilliant yellow. People in Ninh Hai commune, Hoa Lu district, Ninh Binh are excited and happy because this year's rice harvest is good. The rice field is more than 18 hectares wide, heavy with rice, winding along the fertile river, signaling a bumper crop. From Hanoi to Ninh Binh, after visiting all the famous tourist areas and spots in the ancient capital such as Trang An, Bai Dinh, Cuc Phuong, Thung Nham, Mr. Le Tien Hien came to Tam Coc to admire the rice fields. The 37-year-old man was very surprised because this place was crowded with foreign tourists coming to visit the "rare" rice fields in Vietnam. "I was surprised because nowhere in Vietnam has rice fields as beautiful as Tam Coc. It brings back so many beautiful memories of peaceful Vietnamese villages. The rice fields here are still wild, in the distance are mountain ranges, creating an endless green color," Hien confided. The leader of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hoa Lu district shared that for many years now, Tam Coc rice fields have received attention, farmers not only grow rice for production but also for tourism. Therefore, since the beginning of the crop season, the department has coordinated with the District Agricultural Service Center to urge and guide Van Lam Agricultural Cooperative to implement. Local authorities at all levels and cooperatives have supported farmers with rice seeds, maintained rice care to create beautiful landscapes for tourism, especially the Ninh Binh Tourism Week that takes place every year. A representative of the Tam Coc tourist area management board said that the rice area in front of Hai cave alone has an area of nearly 10,000m2, this year the tourist area has worked with farmers to intercrop and shape the rice so that when the rice is ripe, the picture "Shepherd playing the flute" will clearly appear. "In previous years, to serve Ninh Binh Tourism Week, the rice fields were shaped into the paintings "Festival Flag" and "Fish Watching the Moon". Many tourists came to admire them, creating a difference that could not be found anywhere else. This year, the fields were shaped into the painting "Shepherd Playing the Flute" - the image of a buffalo boy playing the flute, inspired by a folk painting. At this time, the giant painting has appeared very beautifully, attracting many tourists to admire it", said a representative of the tourist area. Also according to the Tam Coc Tourist Area Management Board, the painting "Shepherd Playing the Flute" has the meaning of honoring the unique cultural and religious values of the ancient capital land of the sacred land and talented people. The image of the buffalo - considered the "foundation of the career", because this is the means of production closely associated with the farming work of farmers. In addition, the buffalo is also considered a treasure of farmers, a gentle, hard-working, diligent mascot, a precious virtue, a tradition of the ancient rice civilization.
According to Mr. Nguyen Cao Tan, Deputy Director of Ninh Binh Department of Tourism, with the material documents taken from the motherland, Tam Coc is one of the cradles of primitive agriculture. From the ethnographic survey documents, it is shown that this place still preserves the ancient beliefs of worshiping the Mountain God, the Forest God, and the Farmer God of the Vietnamese people. "The people of Ninh Binh have been and are continuing to inherit and promote the achievements and sacred values left by their ancestors, sustainably using the natural landscape and traditional cultural values to develop tourism. All of these resources are used to create momentum to promote economic, cultural and social development, so that Ninh Binh and the whole country can rise up in the period of innovation and international integration", Mr. Tan shared.
