Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên17/07/2024

Many universities have organized a variety of domestic and international experiential activities, focused on investing in technology development, and launched a series of scholarships to attract talent... to meet the needs and match the tuition fees paid by students.

University tuition fees are divided into different groups.

Currently, the country has more than 200 higher education institutions, of which about 2/3 are public higher education institutions, 1/3 are non-public higher education institutions. In this context, learners have too many choices. Universities are not only places for vocational training, but many people consider them a type of service, customers - learners pay tuition fees, schools provide training service quality commensurate with the amount of investment.

When tuition fees are considered as future investments, customers - learners choose universities, tuition fees depend on their needs. University tuition fees depend on many factors: training program, school size, learning path, language of instruction, major, support policies...

Over the past two decades, some universities have seen high tuition increases. There are several main reasons for this: Government budget cuts, Tuition increase roadmap according to Decree 81/2021/ND-CP, The tuition fee ceiling for public universities that are not fully autonomous for the 2023-2024 school year ranges from 1.2 million to 2.45 million VND/month, depending on the major. For schools that are financially autonomous, tuition fees can be 2-2.5 times higher. Tuition fee increases are also in line with current prices, with the aim of improving the quality of education, improving facilities and compensating for training costs.

According to Thanh Nien Newspaper, with a roadmap to increase tuition fees by 10% per year, it is expected that after 4 years, many universities will have tuition fees ranging from 30 to 200 million VND/year depending on the major and training system. When financially independent, the tuition fees of some public schools will be equivalent to those of private schools.

According to statistics, FPT University's tuition fee since its establishment (2006) is 1,200 USD/semester, and since then the tuition fee has only changed a very small amount. However, calculated in Vietnamese Dong, the tuition fee has changed partly due to the impact of the USD exchange rate. The tuition fee is no longer in the top group of universities with the highest tuition fees. FPT University's tuition fee in 2006 was in the Top 3 schools with the highest tuition fees in Vietnam, up to now, FPT University's tuition fee is outside the Top 15 on the market. FPT University's tuition fee is calculated by semester. A school year will have 3 semesters, the tuition fee for majors ranges from 20,090,000 VND/semester to 32,500,000 VND/semester.

University education is increasingly becoming practical.

According to UNESCO's perspective from a social perspective, university education is a public good because it has a large "external impact". That is, the trained person not only benefits himself, such as higher income, more knowledge, more experience, but also brings good impact to the whole society... he can be more mature, act more responsibly, have better labor productivity, not become a burden on society because he is less dependent on social assistance...

"Is education a service activity? Is university a service organization?" is the question that Dr. Le Truong Tung - Chairman of FPT University Council raised right in the opening part of the discussion "University Governance as a Service Organization" at EduCamp since 2015.

At FPT University, education is considered a service and in which "training is the process of organizing and managing the self-study of learners" - Dr. Le Truong Tung stated his opinion. With the training method focusing on experience to "improve the competitiveness of the majority of learners".

The core of FPT University is not only to provide knowledge, but also to teach students the awareness of self-study, self-improvement and self-development. From there, the school helps create an open environment for students to pursue their passion, knowledge... which is to help them find their direction and take control of their lives.

Research data from Oxford University shows that about 50% of jobs in the world will disappear and be replaced by machines, while 56% of jobs in ASEAN will be replaced. However, "Technology and robots, no matter how improved, cannot replace humans. Therefore, the question we should answer is how to train new workers to work with robots and technology," said Mr. Stephen Ulrich - Program Director of the International Labor Organization (ILO) in the press.

When education is considered a service, tuition fees are just one of many factors in choosing a university. Accordingly, parents and students choose schools based on the following criteria: job opportunities after graduation, extracurricular activities during the study process, corporate learning programs, technology experiences, English-language learning programs, international cultural exchange events, talent development scholarships, student support services, etc.
