Four new points in VNeID update

VnExpressVnExpress18/10/2023

VNeID has just updated e-wallet, social insurance, CCCD issuance history, and electronic identification account locking, but some features are not working yet.

The National Population Data Center - Ministry of Public Security last week released VNeID version 2.1.0 to fix errors and update new features. Users can update the electronic identification application on Google Play and App Store.

According to the announcement, VNeID 2.1.0 adds four new features including: Integrating history and information of documents such as ID cards and CCCDs; Integrating information about social insurance participation; Limiting and locking electronic identification accounts when chip-embedded CCCD cards expire; Adding integration services with Epay e-wallet (ETC).

In practice, the feature of integrating ID card and CCCD information is quite simple and easy to use. Users just need to go to the Citizen Identification Card section, select Register CCCD/CMND card issuance history . After about a day of approval, users can view the history of card issuance. Here, the card status will be displayed, whether it is still valid or expired, along with personal information such as identification features, hometown, permanent residence, and expiration date.

The application allows you to choose information from three types of cards: chip-based CCCD, barcode CCCD, and 12-digit ID card. However, VNeID currently does not display ID card information.

Meanwhile, the feature of integrating information about the social insurance participation process that many people are looking forward to does not yet support operations on the application. According to the VNeID switchboard, users must go to the local police station to register. The officer in charge will check the information and send the data to the system. The data is then transferred to the relevant department for comparison. If there is a match, the result will be returned and uploaded to the application. Currently, to track social insurance information online, users can access the VssID application. However, this app has been complained about because it is difficult to log in, only re-granting passwords via email or virtual assistant on the switchboard 1900 9068.

The third feature of the update is to limit and lock the electronic identification account when the chip-embedded CCCD card expires, which only makes sense when the document expires. At that time, the system will send a notification to the user in the personal section.

The fourth addition on VNeID 2.1.0 is the integration of Epay e-wallet, but there is no specific function yet. Users can find this feature in Personal > Data sharing settings > Ask me every time I log in to Epay wallet . According to the support hotline, this part is still under development and will have more functions in the future.

One of the major problems that VNeID still has is the difficulty in logging in on a new device. Users must enter an OTP code sent to the old device, causing difficulties in case the phone is lost or damaged. If the OTP cannot be received from the old device, users can log in by using NFC on the smartphone to scan the chip attached to the CCCD. However, many people have reported that this feature does not work properly, even when using new devices such as the iPhone 14. In case they cannot log in themselves, they have to go to the local police for support.

Currently, the VNeID app is compatible with devices running iOS 13.0, iPadOS 13.0 or Android 5.0 or later. The app started being available for download on August 23, 2021 and has reached more than 10 million downloads on Android, with 55,000 reviews. On iOS and iPadOS, the app has received more than 11,000 reviews but no information about the number of downloads.

At the national online conference on digital transformation on July 12, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested to integrate a series of personal data into the application such as education level, family relationships, driver's license, bank account, electricity, water, telecommunications, civil servants, public employees, and party members.
