On January 15, Highway Traffic Control Patrol Team No. 7, Traffic Police Department, said it had fined a female driver from Binh Phuoc for driving in the wrong direction on the highway according to Article 5 of Decree 100/2019.

Fined 17 million VND for driving in the wrong direction on the highway

Working with the police, the driver said that on the morning of January 14, she was driving to the West for work. Because she was not familiar with the road and her car had a flat tire, she drove the car in the wrong direction for about 500 meters, looking for a turn to Highway 1 to fix the car.

In the dash cam footage recorded by another car, the female driver was driving in the opposite direction at a high speed, constantly flashing her lights to warn. At that time, the road was deserted, with few vehicles passing by.

The 23 km, 4-lane My Thuan - Can Tho Expressway, passing through Vinh Long and Dong Thap, opened to traffic late last year. The route, along with My Thuan 2 Bridge, helps reduce the travel time from Can Tho to Ho Chi Minh City to more than 2 hours compared to 4 hours via National Highway 1.

In early January, a 37-year-old male driver was also fined 22 million VND for driving at 210 km/h on this highway.
