According to a report from Bloomberg, DJ Novotney - Apple's veteran vice president of hardware engineering will leave the corporation to take on a new role at Rivian. Novotney has spent nearly 25 years working at Apple on many generations of iPod, iPhone, Apple Watch...

Throughout his career, he has built teams spanning multiple engineering disciplines, managed product costs, coordinated manufacturing processes, negotiated complex contracts, and overseen development agreements...

Novotney is the second executive to leave Apple for Rivian this month. Earlier this month, it was reported that Jonas Reinke, Apple's head of automotive products, mobility and services, had left the company to join Rivian as vice president of product management.

Bloomberg reports that Novotney will become senior vice president of vehicle programs at Rivian, reporting directly to CEO RJ Scaringe. In a memo announcing his departure, Novotney paid tribute to his years at Apple and said he was moving to continue bringing new products to life.

In addition to his work on the iPod, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, Novotney has spent time working on Apple’s Project Titan electric vehicle team. He was recently reported to be a senior executive in charge of developing future home devices, including some in the fields of robotics and artificial intelligence.
