Novotney is the second executive to leave Apple for Rivian this month. Earlier this month, it was reported that Jonas Reinke, Apple's head of automotive products, mobility and services, had left the company to join Rivian as vice president of product management.

In January alone, Apple lost two more senior employees.

Bloomberg reports that Novotney will become senior vice president of vehicle programs at Rivian, reporting directly to CEO RJ Scaringe. In a memo announcing his departure, Novotney paid tribute to his years at Apple and said he was moving to continue bringing new products to life.

In addition to his work on the iPod, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, Novotney has spent time working on Apple’s Project Titan electric vehicle team. He was recently reported to be a senior executive in charge of developing future home devices, including some in the fields of robotics and artificial intelligence.
